After ending his college career at Tennessee State, Mason was picked up with the 53rd overall selection of the 1988 NBA Draft by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/basketball\/nba\/teams\/portland-trail-blazers\/22\/\" data-autotag=\"ebbd75c8-2661-4cdf-9293-f30f46f12e95\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The Miami, Florida native played the first season of his pro career with the (then) New Jersey (now, Brooklyn) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/basketball\/nba\/teams\/brooklyn-nets\/17\/\" data-autotag=\"02f2623f-cb52-4847-8284-ff461d726c25\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-t-l=\":b|e|k|\u2691u\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Nets<\/a> after being cut before the start of his rookie season and signing with the Nets that offseason.
