Senior Dominique Daniels Jr. was 11 of 11 from the free-throw line and had the game-winning assist to freshman Jordan M\u00fcller as the California Baptist University men\u2019s basketball team extended its unbeaten streak at the Fowler Events Center to more than a full calendar year with a 65-63 victory over Abilene Christian in a Western Athletic Conference game Saturday night.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Fowler is a special place,\u201d CBU coach Rick Croy said. \u201cThere aren\u2019t many great college basketball spaces on the West Coast and we\u2019re blessed to have one. This is a tremendous home environment. We don\u2019t talk about it enough. This is a really special place to get to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daniels Jr. finished with 21 points and five assists as the Lancers (18-6 overall, 8-3 in WAC) pushed their current winning streak to eight games while moving to 12-0 at home this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just our will to win at the end of the day,\u201d Daniels Jr. said. \u201cWe all have one goal. We all have one mindset.\u201d<\/p>\n
CBU\u2019s last loss at home was to Southern Utah, 60-57, on Feb. 6, 2025. The Lancers have won each of their last four games either in overtime or by fewer than three points.<\/p>\n
Still tied for first place with Utah Valley in the WAC with seven games remaining in the regular season, CBU plays at Southern Utah and Utah Tech next week before traveling to Utah Valley on Thursday, Feb. 19.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll these games are pivotal because you have to win on your home floor, as we\u2019ve done, and then you have to go and try and compete well on the road,\u201d Croy said. \u201cWe started 0-3 on the road (but) we got tougher. We got tighter, and even tonight, we didn\u2019t play great but I thought our guys fought hard enough to win.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daniels was 2 for 3 from beyond the arc as CBU jumped out to an early eight-point advantage and went into halftime with a 32-26 lead.<\/p>\n
Shots stopped falling for the Lancers in the second half, and Abilene Christian grabbed its first lead at 46-45 with a tough layup from Cbo Newton with 8 minutes remaining.<\/p>\n
Senior Martel Williams sank a 3-pointer to retake the lead on CBU\u2019s next possession, but Abilene Christian\u2019s Rich Smith dunked in traffic put the Wildcats up 55-53 with 3:50 to play.<\/p>\n
After Williams made two from the line to tie the game and Abilene Christian\u2019s Christian Alston got a tough attempt to fall to make it 57-55, a block by senior Jayden Jackson gave CBU the ball back. Daniels was fouled scoring a layup at the other end before making the free throw for a 60-57 lead.<\/p>\n
Seven-footer Cade Horneker got a put-back for Abilene Christian (10-13, 2-8) on the next possession to make it a one-point game again with less than a minute to play, and following a timeout, Daniels took his time before dribbling to the top of the key and whipping it to M\u00fcller in the corner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI found (M\u00fcller) and he can hit that shot,\u201d Daniels Jr. said. \u201cHe\u2019s done it for us before so I trust him.\u201d<\/p>\n
M\u00fcller, who leads CBU from 3-point range (36.7 percent), drilled his only shot attempt of the game with 22 seconds remaining.<\/p>\n
CBU was just 7 of 27 from the floor but 15 of 16 at the line in the second half, leaving Abilene Christian two chances to win in the final moments.<\/p>\n
Horneker could not get a put-back attempt to fall after Newton missed the second of two free throws with 5 seconds left. In the scramble, the ball went out of bounds to Abilene Christian, but Newton\u2019s 3-point attempt from the inbounds plays clanked off the back of the rim and fell to the floor as time expired.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RIVERSIDE \u2014 The Lancers refuse to lose at home.
