PHOENIX \u2013 The Phoenix Suns lost the free throw battle against the Dallas Mavericks by 35, and still left Mortgage matchup center with the win. The final tally ended 44-9 in favor of Dallas, and it still couldn\u2019t pull out the win. Phoenix did boast a 31-point lead it nearly blew because of the disparity at the charity stripe.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks become the tenth team to lose a game with 35 or more free throw advantage. AZSports Kellan Olson reported that the differential is the highest in a game five seasons and becomes only the seventh time in the past 15 years.<\/p>\n

Head coach Jordan Ott reacted candidly about the free throw number and how it mucked up the game for the Suns.<\/p>\n

Ott on how the free throw differential changed the game:<\/p>\n

When Phoenix found itself up 31 points, it was moving the ball and pushing the pace to catch Dallas on the run and out of place. It wasn\u2019t until the tempo slowed down and the Mavericks kept attacking the rim that the dynamic of the game changed. The size of Cooper Flagg and craftiness of Khris Middleton gifted them 23 free throws and aid their team\u2019s run.<\/p>\n

Ott complained that once play is stopped for free throws, the flow of the game is ruined and makes it out of sync for his players. He was proud on how his guys endured and pivoted from the free throw disparity. The Mavericks did bring it within six, but Devin Booker responded late in the clutch with a fadeaway in the post to secure the 120-111 win for his team.<\/p>\n

Tuesday was a roller coaster, as the Suns broke out of its rough patch offensively, but nearly had an all-time collapse at home. The grit of Ott\u2019s squad continues to power through, as the team has one last game before the All-Star break.<\/p>\n
