SAN ANTONIO \u2013 For lifelong San Antonio Spurs<\/a> fans Paul Salazar and his son, PJ, game days at the Frost Bank Center are everything. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just look forward to the games every single day,\u201d PJ said. <\/p>\n

Spurs star Victor Wembanyama chose the father-and-son duo to join a new Spurs superfan group called the \u201cJackals.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I heard about it, I said, \u2018Wow, they\u2019re having tryouts?\u2019\u201d PJ said. \u201cWe went to see if we could get a spot. Now we come to every home game, and I\u2019m cheering on the Spurs. It\u2019s amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul Salazar said the experience has given them memories he didn\u2019t have growing up.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrowing up, I didn\u2019t get to meet as many players as he\u2019s able to meet now,\u201d Paul said. \u201cDoing it together is good for me, but it\u2019s something he\u2019s going to remember for the rest of his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paul said being part of the inaugural group has brought the Salazars closer and helped his son open up and be more social. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just tell him to be himself,\u201d Paul said. \u201cRight now, I\u2019m watching him talk, and he\u2019s being himself. It makes me very emotional to see that.\u201d <\/p>\n

PJ has become a key part of the group and was named Jackal of the Month for January. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe used to sit way up in the nosebleed seats, and now we\u2019re down here,\u201d PJ said. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy, but I love it.\u201d <\/p>\n

PJ said his favorite Spurs player is Keldon Johnson, \u201cthe one and only big body, Keldon Johnson or KJ, let\u2019s go!\u201d <\/p>\n

Paul and PJ Salazar are a reminder that for many in San Antonio, the Spurs are more than a basketball team \u2014 they\u2019re family.<\/p>\n
