Adam Silver sees no problem with Giannis Antetokounmpo\u2019s controversial Kalshi partnership.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During NBA All-Star media day, Silver said the Bucks star\u2019s investment in the prediction market company was \u201cminiscule,\u201d and \u201cmuch smaller\u201d than the one percent stake allowed under the league\u2019s Collective Bargaining Agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When asked if he had any concern over Antetokounmpo\u2019s Kalshi deal, Silver shifted his focus to the gambling environment as a whole, with prediction markets emerging and sports betting legal in 40 U.S. jurisdictions and dozens of other countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt concerns me, in the totality of all this betting, we need a better handle \u2013 no pun intended \u2013 on all the different [betting] activity that\u2019s happening out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silver added that the league is \u201clooking at prediction markets, essentially, in the same way as sports betting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 It\u2019s an issue I\u2019m paying an enormous amount of attention to. It\u2019s rapidly evolving,\u201d he said. \u201cPrediction markets have now come on the scene fairly recently as major sports betting marketplaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silver\u2019s comments come a week after Antetokounmpo became an investor<\/a> in the fast-growing prediction market to much fanfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone is Online. The internet is full of opinions. I decided it was time to make some of my own,\u201d Antetokounmpo wrote in a post on social media. \u201cToday, I\u2019m joining Kalshi as a shareholder.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before the trade deadline, more than $23 million was put down speculating on Antetokounmpo\u2019s future at Kalshi before he ended up staying put in Milwaukee.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unlike the NHL and MLS, the NBA has yet to partner with prediction markets like they have with traditional sports gambling companies like DraftKings and FanDuel.\u00a0<\/p>\n
