Kentucky<\/a> forward Jayden Quaintance<\/a> hasn\u2019t played since the Wildcats\u2019 loss to Missouri<\/a> on Jan. 7. Quaintance is reportedly suffering swelling in the same knee he tore his ACL in last year. On Thursday, Kentucky head coach Mark Pope<\/a> provided an update on Quaintance\u2019s recovery.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is not ready right now. He\u2019s not ready and, and we\u2019re not gonna roll him out there till he\u2019s 100%. He\u2019s gotta be 100% ready,\u201d Pope said of Quaintance.<\/a> \u201c\u2026We haven\u2019t incorporated him back into practice. And so that\u2019s complicated. I don\u2019t know how optimistic I am about that. Like I said, he\u2019s making great progress, but with a guy as explosive as he is, he\u2019s got to be 100% ready. And so we\u2019re working slowly but positively.\u201d<\/p>\n

Quaintance transferred to Kentucky ahead of this season after spending his freshman year at Arizona State<\/a>. Quaintance missed Kentucky\u2019s first 11 games while he recovered from his torn ACL.<\/p>\n

He made his Kentucky debut on Dec. 20, boosting the Wildcats to a 78-66 win over St. John\u2019s<\/a>. In the triumph, Quaintance recorded 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in just 17 minutes of action.<\/p>\n

Quaintance played standout defense against preseason Big East Player of the Year Zuby Ejiofor<\/a>. Quaintance played in Kentucky\u2019s next three games, but never scored more than five points in a single outing.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Kentucky\u2019s next contest, the team announced that Quaintance wouldn\u2019t play due to knee swelling. Quaintance entered the season as a projected lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.<\/p>\n

His draft stock has since fallen. Earlier this month, ESPN\u2019s Jeremy Woo named<\/a> Quaintance the No. 18 overall prospect in the 2026 draft class.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unclear if he will try to play the rest of the way, and NBA scouts presently have more questions than answers about him as a prospect,\u201d Woo wrote. \u201cQuaintance\u2019s defensive upside and ability as a lob threat should keep him in the lottery mix, but barring a return this season, he won\u2019t be able to strengthen his case until the predraft process begins.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without Quaintance, Kentucky\u2019s options in the front court are limited. Freshman Malachi Moreno<\/a> starts at center and has had a stellar debut campaign. However, he isn\u2019t as strong as Quaintance and can struggle against more experienced players.<\/p>\n

Kentucky backup center Brandon Garrison<\/a> faces similar issues and isn\u2019t as reliable as Moreno on offense. For now, Kentucky has no choice but to push forward without Jayden Quaintance.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the Wildcats will square off against Auburn<\/a> at 8:30 p.m. ET.
