And I think that is unfair,\u201d Brown told Andscape. \u201cAnd for you to continue to tell untruths in your apology statement, I feel offended by it. In the video, the NBA guard asks the cop \u201cfor a clear reason\u201d why the event is being shut down, adding he feels \u201ctargeted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jaylen Brown\u2019s Beverly Hills party is shut down for not having the correct permit.   February 15, 2026, the Beverly Hills Police Department shut down an event hosted by Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, specifically his \u201cLAB 741\u201d event, due to a lack of proper permits.<br \/>\n Instagram\/jaylenbrownclips<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho\u2019s shutting this down?\u201d demands Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s above my pay grade,\u201d the officer responds before later adding, \u201cThe city.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brown claimed the event wasn\u2019t a party, rather, it was a panel and it was\u00a0only 7 in the evening, and that music \u201cwas playing in the daytime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, you applied for a permit, the permit was denied, and you guys still had the event,\u201d the officer answers.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe California Post is here. I feel like we\u2019re being targeted,\u201d the frustrated NBA star says to the camera.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday,  Feb.  15  |  City of Beverly Hills issues statement, Brown responds<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement given to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2026\/02\/15\/sports\/jaylen-brown-celtics-police\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">The Boston Globe<\/a> the following morning, the City of Beverly Hills rejected a permit for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Saturday, February 14, the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) responded to an event taking place at a private residence in the Trousdale neighborhood of the City. An event permit had been applied for and denied by the City due to previous violations associated with events at the address,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the fact that the permit was denied, organizers still chose to proceed with inviting hundreds of guests knowing that it was not allowed to occur. BHPD responded and shut down the unpermitted event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jaylen Brown\u2019s Beverly Hills party is shut down for not having the correct permit.   February 15, 2026, the Beverly Hills Police Department shut down an event hosted by Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, specifically his \u201cLAB 741\u201d event, due to a lack of proper permits.<br \/>\n Instagram\/jaylenbrownclips<\/p>\n<p>Brown refuted that statement after Sunday\u2019s NBA All-Star Game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m offended by Beverly Hills by the statement they put out, like we applied for something and didn\u2019t get it, and we did it anyway (and) we were insubordinate,\u201d he said postgame. \u201cI know how to follow the rules. I\u2019m smart enough to follow the guidelines. It just seemed like somebody didn\u2019t want whatever we had going on to go on because out of everybody that was doing something, it seemed like I was the only one that gets shut down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the permit, or lack thereof, Brown refuted the city\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was not true,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t need a permit because the owner of the house, that was his space. We were family friends. He opened up the festivities to us so we didn\u2019t have to. We never applied for one. \u2026 I didn\u2019t have to pay for the house or anything. They just opened it up. Copyright 2026 NBAE (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn\/NBAE via Getty Images)<br \/>NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Thursday,  Feb.  19  |  City of Beverly Hills issues apology, Browns calls it \u2018half ass\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In a somewhat surprising move, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/19\/sports\/beverly-hills-apologizes-to-jaylen-brown-for-shutting-down-mansion-event\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">City of Beverly Hills wrote and released a statement<\/a> via Instagram taking full accountability of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon further internal review, the City has determined that its prior public communication contained inaccurate information,\u201d Beverly Hills officials\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DU9PzLJEnsg\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cSpecifically, no permit application was submitted nor denied for the event and the residence does not have any prior related violations on record. The City takes full accountability for the internal error that resulted in the inaccurate statement being distributed and is working to ensure it does not happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beverly Hills City Manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey then went a step further, apologizing to Brown and the Jannard family. However, she doubled down on shutting down the party, claiming the city staff  \u201cobserved circumstances that are believed to be City code violations and for that reason alone, the event was ended.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prior to tipoff that night in the Bay Area, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FCHWPO\/status\/2024647120213737535\" rel=\"nofollow\">Brown responded on X<\/a> to the apology with a statement and tagged Beverly Hills police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a private, invitation-only gathering at a private home among friends and partners, not a public or commercial event requiring a permit,\u201d his statement read. \u201cMusic was voluntarily turned off at 6:00 PM; well before the 10:00 PM noise ordinance. In advance of the event, our team proactively contacted the Beverly Hills Police Department, requesting to hire an off-duty officer for support, and that request was declined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo proof of any alleged violation was ever produced to the homeowner, our team, or legal counsel. Without observation, documentation, or confirmed violations, enforcement action based on belief alone raises serious due-process concerns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then sent another tweet an hour later, saying, \u201cYou targeted me and my <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/741Performance\" rel=\"nofollow\">@741Performance<\/a> event based on biased information then you give a half ass apology after the damage is already done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You targeted me and my <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/741Performance?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@741Performance<\/a> event based on biased information then you give a half ass apology after the damage is already done<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jaylen Brown (@FCHWPO) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FCHWPO\/status\/2024655723930800142?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">February 20, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everything came to a head after the Celtics\u2019 victory when speaking with reporters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to enjoy myself, and I felt that got taken away,\u201d Brown told reporters after Thursday\u2019s game, in which he had a triple-double. \u201cI was embarrassed. If it happened to me, I\u2019m sure it happened to a bunch of people in the past. I look at it like that. There are probably a bunch of people that don\u2019t scream, falls on deaf fears, which is unfortunate. I\u2019m not sure what the conclusion is. \u2026 Even the statement that they put out, they included some stuff that wasn\u2019t true, even in the apology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I don\u2019t think the apology is acceptable. I lost a lot of money (with our) partners, et cetera. People were making assumptions that we didn\u2019t go through the proper protocols. So, all around it\u2019s just a bad taste in my mouth. I\u2019m extremely offended. My team is offended. I\u2019m not sure what the conclusion is going to be. All I know is it\u2019s some bulls\u2014.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the shutdown was racially motivated, Brown had some powerful words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if it was a me thing,\u201d he told Andscape. \u201cI don\u2019t know if it was a demographic thing. I can\u2019t speak for them. All I know: We were targeted.
