Jaylen Brown rebuked the City of Beverly Hills on Thursday for what he viewed as a flawed and insufficient apology.<\/p>\n

Beverly Hills officials apologized to the Celtics star<\/a> after police officers shut down a private event Brown was hosting last Saturday night during NBA All-Star weekend. The city initially said Brown\u2019s team was denied a permit for the event, but later admitted that was \u201cinaccurate information.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpecifically, no permit application was submitted nor denied for the event and the residence does not have any prior related violations on record,\u201d city officials wrote in a statement released on Instagram. \u201cThe City takes full accountability for the internal error that resulted in the inaccurate statement being distributed and is working to ensure it does not happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beverly Hills city manager Nancy Hunt-Coffey added that \u201cCity staff observed circumstances that are believed to be City code violations, and for that reason alone, the event was ended.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown strongly disputed that portion of the apology while addressing the media after Boston\u2019s 121-110 win over the Golden State Warriors<\/a>. He called the statement as a whole \u201ca half-assed apology that I\u2019m not accepting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t trying to stir the pot or nothing,\u201d Brown told reporters in San Francisco<\/a>. \u201cI was just trying to enjoy my All-Star weekend, first time being a starter. We had a brand activation event. A lot of money was spent on it. Oakley was a great partner of ours. I was just trying to enjoy my time. I wasn\u2019t trying to bother nobody, and that got taken away, and it got shut down.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd on top of that, I feel like it kind of embarrassed me and my brand a little bit where people were making assumptions, saying that we didn\u2019t go file the proper permits. We found out that was a lie. They put that in their statement. So why even put that out there in the statement in the first place if it wasn\u2019t the truth? And then they said the house had violations. That was a lie, as well. And then even in the apology, they put out that \u2014 so, when do the lies stop?\u201d<\/p>\n

The event \u2014 an activation for Brown\u2019s 741 Performance brand that was held at the home of Oakley founder Jim Jannard and was scheduled to include a panel featuring former NBA player Andre Iguodala and others \u2014 was shut down around 7 p.m. Brown said the incident \u201cembarrassed\u201d him and his brand. In an earlier post on X, he wrote: \u201c300k down the drain\u201d and tagged the Beverly Hills Police Department.<\/p>\n

Brown told Andscape\u2019s Marc Spears he was considering legal action against the city<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to enjoy my weekend, and I wasn\u2019t thinking about trying to get into it with the police department or get into it with Beverly Hills,\u201d Brown told reporters. \u201cI\u2019ve never had an issue with Beverly Hills. It\u2019s All-Star weekend. It\u2019s 7 p.m. I just wanted to enjoy myself, and I felt like that got taken away and I got embarrassed to some degree. If it happened to me, I\u2019m sure it\u2019s happened to a bunch of people in the past, so I look at it like that. It\u2019s a bunch of people that probably don\u2019t stream or it falls on deaf ears, which is unfortunate. So I\u2019m not sure what the conclusion is. I feel like that apology \u2014 even in the statement they put out, they included some stuff that wasn\u2019t true, even in the apology.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I don\u2019t think that apology was acceptable. I lost a lot of money on partners, etc., and then people were making assumptions like we didn\u2019t go through the proper protocols. So it was all around just a bad look. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I\u2019m extremely offended. My team is offended still. I\u2019m not sure what the conclusion is going to be. All I know is that that was some (BS).\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown said the Beverly Hills PD\u2019s decision to end the gathering felt \u201ctargeted.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe weren\u2019t in violation of anything,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cThey were just trying to figure out a way to shut it down. It\u2019s hard to not say that we weren\u2019t being targeted, I wasn\u2019t being targeted or my brand wasn\u2019t being targeted. Nobody else seemed to have any issues in Beverly Hills. We were lied on in our statement and lied on again, and even in the apology, there was untruth. So I feel like I\u2019ve been targeted, and there\u2019s no other way to really look at it. I don\u2019t know for what reason. I was just trying to have a good time in Beverly Hills on All-Star weekend. But here we are now a week out and I\u2019ve still got to answer questions on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown, who started Sunday\u2019s All-Star game at the Intuit Dome, led Boston to a comfortable win over Golden State with a 23-point, 15-rebound, 13-assist triple-double. He was the first Celtics player to record at least 13 points, rebounds and assists in a non-overtime game since Rajon Rondo in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t even thinking about the game tonight,\u201d Brown told reporters. \u201cI was pissed.
