While the 76ers wait on a return to health for one center, another could be done for the year.<\/p>\n
Rookie Johni Broome suffered a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee during Saturday\u2019s G League game with the Delaware Blue Coats, the team announced Sunday.<\/p>\n
The club did not disclose a timeline. Broome, \u201cwill consult with medical professionals to determine the next steps of his treatment plan,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old center was the 35th overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Auburn. He\u2019s played just 55 minutes in 11 games for the 76ers, scoring 10 points on 4-for-19 shooting.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s been great for the Blue Coats, though, where in 18 games he\u2019s averaged 22.9 points and 8.1 rebounds in 33 minutes per game, plus 19.3 points in eight games in the Tip-Off Tournament. He scored 27 points in 23 minutes before the injury Saturday and had a 50-point game last month with Delaware.<\/p>\n
Though he wasn\u2019t in coach Nick Nurse\u2019s rotation, Broome lessens further the depth at the center position. Joel Embiid (right shin soreness\/right knee injury management) was ruled out for Sunday night\u2019s game at Minnesota. It\u2019ll be his fifth straight game out after playing 20 of the previous 25. The 76ers have lost each of the last four games without Embiid.<\/p>\n
Meniscus tears have been familiar to the 76ers.<\/p>\n
Jared McCain\u2019s meniscus tear in December 2024 ended his rookie season. Embiid tore his meniscus in January 2024. He returned in early April, but it was regarded as rushing back to the playoffs before he was fully healthy.<\/p>\n
