We’re seeing a new breed of Thunder players take on the challenge of playing without their best stars, and they’re doing it well so far. At this point, it seems they’re finding ways to win when it matters.

With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Ajay Mitchell out since before the All-Star Break, players have stepped up well. It’s been more than a challenge for OKC, which finished 42-14 by the ASB. Now winners of two in a row, there’s plenty of hope that they’re gunning for improvement. After all, this is the right time to turn on the engines for the defending champs.

Next Man Up: Thunder Injuries are a Blessing in Disguise

With some of the top guys still recovering from injury, the Thunder seem to be on a promising pace so far. Without their best players, they’re finding ways to win. That’s a great way to thrive at this point in the season, where it is now crucial for teams to secure their spots in the final stretch.

Thunder Injuries are Helping Bench Players Shine

As inevitable as injuries can be, Oklahoma City is still one of the deepest teams in the league. The Thunder have plenty of talent who can find ways to contribute and help the squad win. This says a lot about the defending champs as a standard in the league. Now more than ever, their recent tally of injuries was really tough.

In fact, it came at one point when OKC was only relying on eight guys, including three two-way players. That’s a massive blow to a championship defense campaign so far. Yet, the Thunder continue to display resiliency as well. They’re showing that they are still a promising team to watch. Not all teams in the league can survive for long without their best players.

Best Thunder win of the season?

No SGA. No JDub. No Ajay. No Caruso.

Cavs had won 7 straight. Undefeated with James Harden. Fully healthy.

OKC got up big. Cavs came back. OKC pushed back.

Incredible team win.

— Brandon Rahbar (@BrandonRahbar) February 22, 2026

So far, we’re seeing Jared McCain, who was acquired at the trade deadline, go off in his recent games. Each game has shown consistent development from him, and now it seems that he’s getting more comfortable in OKC. In fact, we’ve seen him come up with more impressive plays — and even get fully in sync with the team.

Then there’s Cason Wallace, who recently dropped a 20-point, 10-assist game to lead the Thunder. Isaiah Joe has also been quite the beast heading into the All-Star Break, which says a lot about his impressive level of play.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://www.rawchili.com/nba/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/1771867635_605_USATSI_28198141_168402037_lowres-1024x683.jpg" alt="Feb 9, 2026; Los Angeles, California, USA; Oklahoma City Thunder guard Isaiah Joe (11) goes to the basket past Los Angeles Lakers guard Marcus Smart (36) during the second quarter at Crypto.com Arena. Mandatory Credit: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images
The Next Man Up

The injuries this season have nearly wiped out the starting unit. In fact, the team’s original starters have been limited to just five games together, and 42 minutes combined. Still, the Thunder are finding ways to win, and they’re scrapping at every turn with the hopes of showing that they can even manage without their best players.

The fact that the playmaking didn’t stop because neither SGA, J-Dub, or Mitchell were on the court is astounding. Wallace proved to be a good playmaker, and even Chet Holmgren is capable of creating plays himself, despite the offense revolving around him.

Cason Wallace vs Cleveland:

20 PTS
10 AST
3 STL
4 3P

The first Thunder player since Chris Paul to reach those numbers in a game. pic.twitter.com/qrhxXJHQIU

— StatMuse (@statmuse) February 22, 2026

This “Next Man Up” mentality by the Thunder seems to be promising at this point. We all know how capable the Thunder bench can be, just ask the San Antonio Spurs at full strength. It is a fact that the league knows, and even an injured OKC squad can certainly put teams to the distance, and even pull off stunning wins.

How Long Can OKC Stay on the Winning Side with Injuries?

Oklahoma City is not a team that goes down with just a couple of injuries. It doesn’t affect them right away. That’s because the next man on the bench steps up, and this is what makes the Thunder a more scary team to compete against. Now more than ever, OKC is expected to stay on the winning side for as long as they can.

Without some of their best players, there’s bound to be losses, sure. However, one thing is certain — OKC’s injuries are still tough. But it is also making them tougher in an important stretch in the 2025-26 season. Resilience is not just about not giving up, but the next man standing up as well.

© Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images

The latest Thunder injuries may be tough, but they are bringing OKC to another level of play with…

[3783
5577,7,205,1624,364,1255,6,310,475,179,3966,3965,209,312
0":"post-620249","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-oklahoma-city-thunder","8":"tag-ajay-mitchell","9":"tag-basketball","10":"tag-cason-wallace","11":"tag-isaiah-joe","12":"tag-jalen-williams","13":"tag-jared-mccain","14":"tag-nba","15":"tag-oklahoma","16":"tag-oklahoma-city","17":"tag-oklahoma-city-thunder","18":"tag-oklahomacity","19":"tag-oklahomacitythunder","20":"tag-shai-gilgeous-alexander","21":"tag-thunder
["GET
