{"id":622660,"date":"2026-02-24T20:54:16","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/622660\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:54:16","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:54:16","slug":"dangelo-russells-future-on-the-wizards-gets-more-confusing-by-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/622660\/","title":{"rendered":"D&#8217;Angelo Russell&#8217;s future on the Wizards gets more confusing by the day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5i\">There&#8217;s no secret that the Washington Wizards busy NBA trade deadline put them in position where the team would be tasked with roster decisions to make.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5l\">Obviously, when the team opted to make the swings for both Trae Young and Anthony Davis, it was clear that both players were here to stay.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5o\">And while Young landed in Washington alone, Davis&#8217; arrival came with the addition of quite a few players.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5r\">One of which being former G-League Ignite standout Jaden Hardy, who&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/wizofawes.com\/the-anthony-davis-blockbuster-came-with-an-unexpected-bonus-01kha7v6t6b9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">already shown flashes<\/a> in his recent stretch with the Wizards.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5u\">The other being a former lottery pick in Dante Exum, who seemingly thrived in his fresh start with the Mavericks prior to be involved in the blockbuster trade that moved Davis to the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5x\">Nonetheless, with an injury history at 30, mixed with the fact he offered no real upside to the team, Washington quickly decided to cut ties with the veteran guard giving him the opportunity to seek yet another fresh start elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"60\">Last but not least, that leaves veteran guard D&#8217;Angelo Russell as the lone player who&#8217;s future in Washington seems to be up in the air.<\/p>\n<p>D&#8217;Angelo Russell Wizards&#8217; future unclear<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"66\">Originally, it seemed as if a buyout for the former No. 2 overall pick was the <a href=\"https:\/\/wizofawes.com\/washington-wizards-newest-addition-never-suit-up\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">most likely scenario <\/a>after general manager Will Dawkins revealed that the playmaker had yet to join the team as the two sides discussed what would be best for his future.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"69\">Russell is at the point of his career where competing for an NBA championship is likely the upmost top priority.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6c\">While Davis may be sticking around for the rebuild, that&#8217;s because he&#8217;s a focal point in the team&#8217;s vision, where as Russell is on the complete opposite spectrum.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6f\">At the same time, with the recent announcement that Russell would be changing his jersey number from 14 to 28, it seemed like the two sides may have come to an agreement for the Ohio State product to stick around after all.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">UPDATE: D&#8217;Angelo Russell (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Dloading?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@Dloading<\/a>) is switching from No. 14 to No. 28 for the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Wizards?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#Wizards<\/a>.
