It\u2019s my fourth game here,\u201d Sochan said in an interview with The Post. \u201cSo we\u2019ll figure it out. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Sochan managed just two rocky minutes in the first half of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/24\/sports\/knicks-dismantled-by-cavaliers-as-horrendous-shooting-in-third-allows-game-to-unravel\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tuesday\u2019s 109-94 loss to the Cavaliers<\/a>, then was benched until garbage time while finishing with no points. <\/p>\n<p>Sochan, who was signed as a free agent during the All-Star break, had been given a rotational opportunity by coach Mike Brown, who said he wanted to give the forward a chance to determine his fit before the playoffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Sochan\u2019s third-quarter shift Tuesday went to rookie Mohamed Diawara, who had been surging before Sochan\u2019s signing but struggled in Cleveland while missing three of his four 3-point attempts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my first time adjusting to a different dynamic,\u201d said Sochan, who spent his first three full seasons with the Spurs. \u201cSo it\u2019s going to take some time to figure out and, of course, I haven\u2019t been in a lot of game shape. So altogether there are going to [be] ups and downs. But I\u2019m blessed and excited to be in this situation. And I truly believe I can add to this team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In four appearances, Sochan is averaging one point and one rebound in 7.5 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s just learning how everyone wants to play. The vibe on the team and all those sorts of things,\u201d Sochan said about his biggest adjustment. \u201cAnd I think it\u2019s pretty easy for me to learn the playbook. But now it\u2019s learning everybody\u2019s tendencies. What they like and what don\u2019t like. Just trying to figure out that part. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Fitness was also a hurdle after spending most of this season on the bench with the Spurs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Tuesday] I felt a little better than Chicago [on Sunday] and the other two games. There\u2019s nothing you can really do to get into game shape,\u201d Sochan said. \u201cThat\u2019s a whole different story. But it only takes a few games and then you start feeling better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kenny Atkinson isn\u2019t focused on beating the Knicks in the playoffs because he doesn\u2019t want to make the same mistake as last season, when his top-seeded Cavs were prepping for a Celtics showdown but got upset in the second round by the Pacers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhat\u2019s happening on and off the Garden court\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Inside the Knicks by Stefan Bondy, a weekly exclusive on Sports+.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to be careful. I know last year we were thinking \u2018Boston, Boston, Boston,\u2019 and we got Indiana,\u201d Atkinson said Tuesday. \u201cI thought, \u2018We\u2019ve got to beat Boston.\u2019 As a head coach, I do keep an eye on what those teams are doing, the Knicks or Boston, teams that are in our wheelhouse. Detroit, I\u2019ll keep an eye on.
