The Lakers’ LeBron James<\/a> hardly needs another push to wrap up his time with the Los Angeles franchise. Ever since the front office traded Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Don\u010di\u0107 back in February 2025, when James himself allegedly had no heads-up about the move, James\u2019 relationship with the iconic team has started to appear fractured. This notion was later confirmed in 2026, when an explosive ESPN story alleged that former team president Jeanie Buss<\/a> was no longer a fan of James and even considered trading him to the Los Angeles Clippers.<\/p>\n

Adding to all of this are the team\u2019s recent struggles. Although the purple and gold squad is likely to make the playoffs (even if it’s just the play-in tournament), you\u2019d be hard-pressed to find any analyst who isn\u2019t a diehard Lakers fan who truly believes the team has what it takes to win a championship this year.<\/p>\n

All these factors are what drove one Lakers legend and champion from yesteryear to advise James to exit LA in the offseason swiftly.<\/p>\n

For those who aren\u2019t basketball historians, Byron Scott was a part of the legendary \u201cShowtime\u201d era of the Lakers, alongside the likes of Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Scott won three championship rings as a Laker, and after he retired and became a coach in the league, he even went on to be head coach of the team. So it\u2019s fair to say he has a deep love for the franchise.<\/p>\n

Well, in a recent interview on Power 106 with Brown Bag Mornings, Scott was asked about his take on the Lakers and James\u2019 future there, and he didn\u2019t mince words. While Scott called James \u201cone of the greatest players to play the game,\u201d when prompted, Scott also confirmed he was ready to see James \u201cgo from the Lakers.”<\/p>\n

Scott also said, \u201cI think this should be his last year here [Los Angeles].\u201d Once Scott clarified he doesn\u2019t mean James should retire, he jokes, \u201cYou don’t have to go home, but got to get the hell out of here.\u201d<\/p>\n
