ORLANDO, Fla. — After playing sporadically of late for the Orlando Magic<\/a>, rookie Jase Richardson was grateful for the opportunity to play extended minutes in the G League on Friday.<\/p>\n

Richardson produced 22 points, nine assists, three rebounds and one steal, helping the Osceola Magic to a 128-111 victory over the Cleveland Charge. He finished by shooting 9-of-15 from the field and was a plus-19 on the court in 31 minutes, 26 seconds.<\/p>\n

Because the game was rescheduled from Wednesday and moved to the Kia Center due to inclement weather that the Charge encountered, Richardson had the chance to suit up in a familiar environment. He was happy to play on Orlando’s home court.<\/p>\n

“(It was) super-fun, in my opinion,” Richardson said on Saturday. “Getting to play at Kia was a super-fun experience. The guys were really welcoming, coaches were really welcoming. … Just meaningful reps, honestly. For me, playing the point guard down there, I feel like that was pretty meaningful for me, building up those reps at that position, so just try to contribute as much as I could.”<\/p>\n

The Magic (31-27) are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, 1 1\/2 games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for an outright playoff berth with 24 games remaining. To provide additional veteran help in the backcourt for their push, the team signed Jevon Carter on Feb. 6.<\/p>\n

Since the addition of Carter, Richardson has played sparingly for coach Jamahl Mosley. So, with the team in the midst of a four-game homestand and Osceola playing on their home court, the time was perfect for Richardson to suit up in the G League.<\/p>\n

“I was asking just to get some reps because I just think for me, staying on top of getting consistent reps, whether that is playing down in the G or in the league, just getting as many consistent reps as I can,” Richardson said. “Then, talking to the G League staff the other day, just making sure I’m making an impact on this team. They’re having a really great season this year, so just try to help in any way I could.”<\/p>\n

Richardson is averaging 4.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists while shooting 36.2% from 3-point range in 42 appearances with the Magic. He is one of 23 first-year players to score at least 20 points in a game this season after reaching that mark on Jan. 6.<\/p>\n

The 25th overall pick has played rotation minutes in spurts this season, giving him high-level experience to build on for the future. With an uncertain role for the rest of the season, Richardson is attempting to maximize his development in any way that he can.<\/p>\n

“I feel like I’ve been getting a lot of mental reps just watching certain guys in the league and watching my team play,” Richardson said. “Just a lot of mental reps in that aspect. Got some physical reps playing in certain games here and there, and that’s why I found the G League yesterday to be so valuable to get more of those reps.
