{"id":639509,"date":"2026-03-04T20:08:21","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/639509\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T20:08:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T20:08:21","slug":"alex-martins-to-be-inducted-into-orlando-magic-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/639509\/","title":{"rendered":"Alex Martins to be inducted into Orlando Magic Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First hired by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/01\/orlando-magic-alex-martins-devos-family-charlie-freeman-nba-all-star-bid-kia-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Magic<\/a> in 1989, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/01\/orlando-magic-alex-martins-devos-family-charlie-freeman-nba-all-star-bid-kia-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Martins<\/a> has held various senior-level management roles for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/01\/orlando-magic-alex-martins-devos-family-charlie-freeman-nba-all-star-bid-kia-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando<\/a> from his first stint with the franchise between \u201989-98 and upon his return to the organization in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>That includes the director of media relations, executive vice president of marketing and franchise relations, president and chief operating officer.<\/p>\n<p>And when he stepped down as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/01\/orlando-magic-alex-martins-devos-family-charlie-freeman-nba-all-star-bid-kia-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Magic CEO last June<\/a> following 14 seasons, Martins transitioned into a new role as vice chair of organization, a position he holds today while acting as a senior advisor to the Magic Board of Directors and as a resource to team executives.<\/p>\n<p>But later this month, Martins will add a new title to his job resume: Magic Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n<p>Martins will become the 14th inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame, chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/01\/orlando-magic-alex-martins-devos-family-charlie-freeman-nba-all-star-bid-kia-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dan DeVos<\/a> announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to welcome Alex Martins into the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame,\u201d DeVos said. \u201cHis innovative business acumen has transformed our organization, while working tirelessly to make the Magic an invested community partner. For his efforts that spanned three decades, this is truly a worthy recognition for Alex and his family, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in his role as vice chair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martins will be inducted on March 23, the team said. In addition to the ceremony, Martins will be honored that night during Orlando\u2019s game against the Pacers at Kia Center.<\/p>\n<p>During his tenure as CEO from 2011-25, Martins led a transformation of the Magic\u2019s business operations, while overseeing a ticket sales, premium sales and corporate partnership effort which saw the most successful business years in the history of the franchise. Additionally, in March 2024, the Sports Business Journal named the Magic as one of the \u201cBest Places to Work in Sports,\u201d the only franchise in the four major professional sports leagues to receive the recognition that year.<\/p>\n<p>Martins, who has spent 38 years in professional sports management, also represents the Magic as the team\u2019s alternate governor to the NBA Board of Governors, as well as oversees all operations of the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL and the Osceola Magic of the G League.<\/p>\n<p>His effort and collaboration with local business and political leaders helped to secure the Kia Center as a sports and entertainment home, which opened in October 2010. The Kia Center was named the Sports Business Journal\u2019s Sports Facility of the Year in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Martins has also held senior executive positions with the New Orleans Hornets, the NFL\u2019s Cleveland Browns and Tavistock Group. He started his career as a student assistant in the Villanova sports information department, assisted in the Philadelphia 76ers public relations department and was also the assistant sports information director at Georgetown University.<\/p>\n<p>He also currently serves as the Chair of the UCF Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Martins earned his MBA from UCF, where he is a member of the College of Business Administration\u2019s Hall of Fame and recipient of University\u2019s Distinguished Alumnus Award. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Villanova University in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>The Magic unveiled its inaugural Hall of Fame class in April 2014 naming the first two inductees, Magic co-founder Pat Williams and the team\u2019s first-ever draft pick and current community ambassador, Nick Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>Martins joins Shaquille O\u2019Neal (2015), Rich DeVos (2016), Penny Hardaway (2017), Jimmy Hewitt (2017), Tracy McGrady (2018), David Steele (2019), Darrell Armstrong (2020), John Gabriel (2022), Brian Hill (2022), Dennis Scott (2023) and Dwight Howard (2025) in the Orlando Magic Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>The hall honors and celebrates the great players, coaches and executives who have had a major impact during Orlando\u2019s history, according to the team.
