San Antonio Spurs center Luke Kornet made waves with his\u00a0criticism of\u00a0the Atlanta Hawks\u2019 “Magic City Monday\u201d\u00a0promotional night<\/a>\u00a0set for March 16.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the\u00a0Hawks announced the promotional night<\/a>\u00a0as a \u201ccollaboration to celebrate the city\u2019s iconic cultural institution Magic City,\u201d an Atlanta-based adult entertainment venue. Kornet\u00a0pleaded that the NBA should \u201cdesire to protect and esteem women\u201d and\u00a0labelled the\u00a0allowance of the\u00a0collaboration as \u201cbeing complicit in the potential objectification and mistreatment of women in our society.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kornet received support from his former Boston Celtics teammate and current Warrior Al Horford for his statement. Horford\u2019s current teammate,\u00a0Draymond\u00a0Green, pushed back on Kornet\u2019s criticism on\u00a0his podcast \u201cThe Draymond Green Show.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI think to point out that they have esteem issues because that’s the line of work they chose, I actually think is less protective of women because you’re condemning something\u00a0\u2013\u00a0it’s actually an art,\u201d Green said. \u201cI\u00a0don’t\u00a0know if\u00a0you’ve\u00a0ever been, but if you see it in action,\u00a0it’s\u00a0actually a\u00a0form of art\u00a0\u2013\u00a0that some choose to indulge\u00a0in\u00a0and some choose not to indulge in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cBut to say that because a woman decides that\u00a0that’s\u00a0the art that they want to partake in and that the customer wants to take in, I think is reflective on society’s thoughts and how they once view things.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Green is taking issue with Kornet\u2019s\u00a0implied\u00a0position that adult entertainment\u00a0does not protect or esteem women. Green says that establishments like Magic City\u00a0do\u00a0the opposite\u00a0by\u00a0providing\u00a0a space\u00a0for workers to perform.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Warriors forward pointed to musician Cardi B as an example in his point.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Cardi B is] selling out stadiums and her background would be\u00a0that,\u201d Green said. \u201cI\u00a0don’t\u00a0think Cardi B has esteem issues. So, I think\u00a0that’s\u00a0actually a\u00a0negative vantage point on these women that are in this line of work; that because they choose this line of work that they have esteem issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0actually wholeheartedly\u00a0disagree.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aside from the ethics of adult entertainment, Green\u00a0states\u00a0that\u00a0the establishment\u00a0is an important part of\u00a0Atlanta\u2019s culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cTo say that a huge part of Atlanta culture reflects poorly on the NBA as a community, I completely disagree because the NBA as a community is a very inclusive community,\u201d Green argued. \u201cSo why this particular night is bad for the community, I don’t quite understand it in a very inclusive community.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Green shared his support for the collaboration as an inclusive measure by the NBA by highlighting a piece of Atlanta\u2019s culture.<\/p>\n

\u201cI respect how Luke Kornet feels. I respect that he made his feelings known, but I disagree with them wholeheartedly,\u201d Green said.<\/p>\n
