{"id":645744,"date":"2026-03-07T18:39:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T18:39:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/645744\/"},"modified":"2026-03-07T18:39:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T18:39:23","slug":"orlando-magics-da-silva-makes-strides-shammgod-gets-praise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/645744\/","title":{"rendered":"Orlando Magic&#8217;s Da Silva makes strides, Shammgod gets praise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the eight games leading up to Saturday\u2019s contest between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Magic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Timberwolves<\/a>, second-year forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tristan da Silva<\/a> averaged 12.1 points on 52.4% shooting from 3-point range alongside 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and one steal per night.<\/p>\n<p>But in the eight games before his most recent stretch of success?<\/p>\n<p>The German forward averaged half as many points on 31.3% shooting from beyond the arc with only 2.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and less than a full steal (0.9) per contest.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a testament to da Silva\u2019s daily work on and off the court as well as an example of ebbs and flows that occur throughout an 82-game regular season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not easy to do to go from starting to off the bench to back to starting to back off the bench,\u201d Magic coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jamahl Mosley<\/a> said about da Silva, who\u2019s made 20 starts in his 56 appearances this season while filling in for injured teammates. \u201cSo, it says something about him as a professional. It says something about his work ethic and the coaches that work with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not easy to do,\u201d Mosley added. \u201cI know it looks like that because he comes in and shoots the heck out of the basketball, but the ability to do that and just play your part, whatever you\u2019ve been given and tasked to do, he did that. And that\u2019s what we need from our guys every night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Magic will search for more of the same from da Silva when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Orlando<\/a> travels to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Milwaukee<\/a> on Sunday night for the second night of a back-to-back following the team\u2019s lone trip of the season to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kidd dishes on Shammgod<\/p>\n<p>Speaking pre-game Thursday night about former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mavericks<\/a> assistant coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2025\/07\/02\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-god-shammgod-nba-coach-staff-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">God Shammgod<\/a>, who Mosley brought to Orlando over the summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dallas<\/a> coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Kidd<\/a> had high praise for the Magic assistant.<\/p>\n<p>Before this season, Shammgod worked for the Mavs since 2016 as a player development coach while serving as the head of player culture. Mosley worked with Shammgod for much of that time when he served as an assistant under past Dallas coach Rick Carlisle (2014-21).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShamm has done an incredible job as a coach,\u201d Kidd said. \u201cI hope he gets the Providence (coaching) job, if he\u2019s in the running. I\u2019m campaigning for him, even if he\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s been around superstars,\u201d Kidd added. \u201cHe understands what it takes to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shammgod played two seasons at Providence (1995-97) and later served as a player development coach there (2012-15). Providence recently informed men\u2019s basketball coach Kim English that he will be fired after the season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mens-college-basketball\/story\/_\/id\/48113455\/sources-providence-kim-english-fired-season\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Richardson proud of college-bound brother<\/p>\n<p>Earlier Thursday, Jaxon Richardson, the younger brother of Magic rookie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlandosentinel.com\/2026\/03\/06\/orlando-magic-dallas-mavericks-paolo-banchero-jalen-suggs-wendell-carter-cooper-flagg-klay-thompson-nba-folo-kia-center-jamahl-mosley\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jase Richardson<\/a>, announced his commitment to the University of Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 27 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 high school class, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/247sports.com\/player\/jaxon-richardson-46140739\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">247Sports Composite rankings<\/a>, Jaxon Richardson is a 6-foot-6 forward in his senior year at Southeastern Prep Academy in Orlando.<\/p>\n<p>The Magic guard, who spent one season at Michigan State before getting drafted at No. 25 last June by Orlando, is two years older than Jaxon, who chose between Alabama and Creighton.<\/p>\n<p>Their father Jason Richardson played 13 years in the NBA, including two with the Magic (2010-12).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuper special moment for him,\u201d Jase Richardson told the Orlando Sentinel about Jaxon. \u201cYour college decision\u2019s always going to be a fun part of your life. I couldn\u2019t be any prouder of him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was talking to me every day about it,\u201d Richardson added. \u201cI really liked both schools for him because both schools are really capable of developing him and making him become a better man and player. But at the end of the day he felt like Alabama was the right fit for him.
