The Heat will receive a 2026 second-round pick from the Hornets as additional compensation for the Terry Rozier<\/a> trade made in January 2024, ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania tweets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The pick will be the most favorable of the Warriors\u2019 and the Nuggets\u2019 second-rounders this June, Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel tweets<\/a>. Given that Denver is six-and-a-half games ahead of Golden State in the standings, the pick will almost certainly be the one the Warriors owed to Charlotte.<\/p>\n

\"\"A dispute between the Southeast Division clubs arose due to Rozier\u2019s alleged involvement in an illegal betting scheme. Rozier has been on indefinite leave all season after being arrested in October on federal charges<\/a> related to illegal gambling.<\/p>\n

The Heat were reportedly unaware of the\u00a0unusual<\/a>\u00a0betting\u00a0activity<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 or the NBA\u2019s investigation \u2014 tied to Rozier (he was a member of the\u00a0Hornets\u00a0at the time) when they traded for him in January 2024, several months after the incident took place.<\/p>\n

This past December, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was \u201csympathetic\u201d to Miami\u2019s plight and was seeking a resolution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an unprecedented situation,\u201d Silver said. \u201cAnd I think I\u2019m incredibly sympathetic to the Heat and to their fans. But I think we\u2019re going to try to work something through, work this out with them. \u2026 But this is an unfortunate circumstance. But sometimes there\u2019s these unique events and maybe sometimes they require unique solutions. So we\u2019ll be looking at this with the Heat and the other teams in the league and see if there\u2019s any satisfactory relief.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miami still owes Charlotte a future first-round pick from that deal \u2014 it will be top-14 protected in 2027, and if it does not convey, the Heat will send the Hornets an unprotected first-rounder in 2028.<\/p>\n

Rozier was originally placed on unpaid leave shortly after the federal charges were lodged. He later won an arbitration case<\/a>, allowing him to collect his full $26.6MM salary.
