Even worse, they are the architects of their own destruction by not taking teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat seriously. It’s hard for a franchise to win championships when they look past any opponent.

Pistons Are Destroying Their Own Confidence Before The Playoffs

Detroit’s Slide

Not that long ago, the Pistons were riding high as both the top team in the Eastern Conference and the top team in the entire league. Their record of 45 wins and 14 losses all but assured them the number one seed in the East. It was the kind of strength and confidence that Detroit has lacked for the last several seasons. Fans could taste at least a Conference championship.

What a difference a few games make. For the first time this season, the Pistons have lost four games in a row, their longest losing streak in 2025-2026. Detroit’s longest losing streak was only two games. On top of that, they’ve gone from 14 losses to 18 losses in a matter of six days.

The Pistons have slipped to third in the league behind the OKC Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, but remain number one in the East for now. In reality, they are in danger of losing that status and the benefits that come with it. The second-place Boston Celtics have Jayson Tatum in the lineup again and are only 2.5 games back from Detroit. And the Pistons have no one to blame but themselves.

Detroit Needs to Take the Last Part of the Season Seriously

As it stands right now, the Pistons have taken the lead in destroying their own confidence. Cade Cunningham has missed two of those four losses, including the game against the Nets, where Detroit let them come back and pick up a two-point win. Losing to Brooklyn is almost as embarrassing as losing to the Kings at this point in the season.

When watching these games, it seems like the Pistons have not been taking some of these teams seriously. Sure, the Cavaliers and the Spurs are tough opponents, and losses to them are not surprising. The top-seeded team in the Eastern Conference losing to teams like the Nets and the Heat is utterly shocking. Miami is a Play-In team at best, while Brooklyn is tanking as hard as possible to get a good draft pick.

Detroit only has 19 games left in the regular season and is definitely in the home stretch. Now is not the time to let their foot off the gas. In fact, they need to double down and collect as many victories as possible. Keep in mind, this is more about confidence going into the postseason than it is getting wins now.

Mar 5, 2026; San Antonio, Texas, USA; Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham (2) reacts after drawing a foul while scoring a three point basket during the second half against the San Antonio Spurs at Frost Bank Center. Mandatory Credit: Scott Wachter-Imagn Images
The Pistons Must Maintain Their Edge

Succeeding in the NBA Playoffs is not just about being the top team in the regular season or if the team’s top star is in the MVP race. It’s about being strong down the stretch, then walking into the postseason being utterly dominant over the entire league. Right now, Detroit is destroying their own confidence with sloppy losses. They are whittling away at that edge while handing it to their opponents.

If the Pistons go on a deep Playoff run, it’s quite likely they will end up facing the Cavaliers. Detroit losing their last regular-season game to the Cavs gives Cleveland a psychological edge. If the Pistons make the NBA Finals, they could take on the Spurs. They also handed them a major loss in this four-game slide. That’s why regular-season dominance is so important, particularly in the final games.

All of these losses are unforced errors on the part of the Pistons. Getting beaten by the Nets and the Heat eats away at their confidence while losing to the Spurs, and Cavs makes the team question if they can win the big games when it counts. That’s not the mentality any team wants going into the postseason, so the Pistons need to end this losing streak now or say goodbye to another NBA Championship.

Featured Image: Rhona Wise-Imagn Images

The Detroit Pistons are in the midst of a four-game losing streak that is utterly destroying their own…

[3773
7,909,296,188,3860,6,297
0":"post-650248","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-detroit-pistons","8":"tag-basketball","9":"tag-cade-cunningham","10":"tag-detroit","11":"tag-detroit-pistons","12":"tag-detroitpistons","13":"tag-nba","14":"tag-pistons
["GET
