ATLANTA \u2014 The only Magic at the Atlanta Hawks\u2019 upcoming NBA game on March 16 will be their opponents from Orlando.<\/p>\n
The league announced Monday that it is canceling the Hawks\u2019 planned promotion for Magic City, an Atlanta strip club.<\/p>\n
\u201cMagic City Monday\u201d was supposed to be a collaboration between the Hawks and the city\u2019s popular adult entertainment venue, WSB-TV<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n The promotion, which was supposed to coincide with the Hawks\u2019 game against the Orlando Magic, was going to include the club\u2019s lemon pepper wings, with one version named for former Hawks guard Lou Williams, ESPN<\/a> reported. It was also to showcase custom merchandise and a halftime performance from Atlanta rapper T.I, according to WSB<\/a>.<\/p>\n No dancers from the club were scheduled to be part of the promotion at State Farm Arena, The Athletic<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n The Hawks did not mention that Magic City was a \u201cgentleman\u2019s club,\u201d instead referring to it as an \u201ciconic cultural institution,\u201d according to the sports website. The team also said the venue was an \u201cAtlanta landmark\u201d and emphasized its \u201chistory, cultural impact, and influence\u201d as an \u201cAtlanta landmark.\u201d<\/p>\n NBA commissioner Adam Silver said that canceling the promotion was the right decision for \u201cthe broader NBA community.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we became aware of the Atlanta Hawks\u2019 scheduled promotion, we reached out to Hawks leadership to better understand their plans and rationale,\u201d Silver said in a statement. \u201cWhile we appreciate the team\u2019s perspective and their desire to move forward, we have heard significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners and employees.\u201d<\/p>\n In a statement, the Hawks said they were \u201cvery disappointed\u201d by the NBA\u2019s decision but respected it.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a franchise, we remain committed to celebrating the best of Atlanta — with authenticity — in ways that continue to unite and bring us all together,\u201d the team said.<\/p>\n The Hawks said T.I. will still perform as planned, and the wings will still be available, as usual, at State Farm Arena, WSB<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n
