However, it has not been a perfect season for Wembanyama, who has dealt with multiple injuries. He missed time with a left calf strain in November and later with a left knee hyperextension.<\/p>\n

As a result, Wembanyama is dangerously close to falling short of the NBA\u2019s 65\u2011game minimum requirement for major awards. And on Wednesday, that path became even more complicated.<\/p>\n

San Antonio announced its latest injury report<\/a> and added Wembanyama with right ankle soreness ahead of Thursday\u2019s matchup with the Denver Nuggets<\/a>, the first time this issue has appeared and a completely new injury.<\/p>\n

It is unclear whether he suffered the injury during Tuesday\u2019s win over the Boston Celtics<\/a>, a game in which he dominated with 39 points, 11 rebounds and three assists across 37 minutes. Wembanyama was given a questionable designation, indicating there is still a chance he plays through the soreness (h\/t Jared Weiss of The Athletic).<\/p>\n

Wembanyama\u2019s health remains essential to San Antonio\u2019s hopes of making a deep playoff run. He is already a former Rookie of the Year and two\u2011time All\u2011Star, and he has fully lived up to the massive expectations that followed him into the league.<\/p>\n
