{"id":658626,"date":"2026-03-14T21:59:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T21:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/658626\/"},"modified":"2026-03-14T21:59:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T21:59:16","slug":"celtics-reportedly-signing-familiar-big-man-to-10-day-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/658626\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics reportedly signing familiar big man to 10-day contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the stars of the Celtics\u2019 Summer League squad is getting an opportunity with the big club.<\/p>\n<p>Boston on Saturday signed veteran big man Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract, according to a report from HoopsHype\u2019s Michael Scotto.<\/p>\n<p>Bassey, 25, averaged 15.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game on 70.4% shooting over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2025\/07\/17\/five-takeaways-from-celtics-summer-league-victory-over-lakers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three Summer League appearances<\/a> for Boston last July. Since then, he\u2019s bounced between four different NBA organizations, appearing in two games for Memphis and one for Philadelphia, plus stints with the 76ers\u2019 and Golden State Warriors\u2019 G League squads.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the 6-foot-10 Bassey\u2019s NBA experience to date came during his three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, for whom he appeared in 90 games with three starts between 2022 and 2025. He\u2019s averaged 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game across 116 career appearances, shooting 62.6% with minimal 3-point volume (3-for-13).<\/p>\n<p>Adding Bassey fills one of the Celtics roster spots that had been vacant since Dalano Banton\u2019s and John Tonje\u2019s 10-day contracts expired on March 1. He\u2019ll provide frontcourt insurance behind starting center Neemias Queta and backup Luka Garza while veteran Nikola Vucevic recovers from the fractured ring finger he suffered in last Friday\u2019s win over Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>Vucevic underwent surgery and will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2026\/03\/07\/celtics-nikola-vucevic-to-miss-several-weeks-with-fractured-finger\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reevaluated in late March or early April<\/a>, according to the team. The Celtics also have rookie center Amari Williams on their 15-man roster.<\/p>\n<p>Boston, which sits just under the NBA\u2019s luxury tax line, has leaned on familiar faces to patch together the back end of its roster.
