The concert itself will be open exclusively to NYPD officers, civilian employees with the department, and their loved ones, Dolan said. <\/p>\n
Grammy Award-winning legends John Fogerty, Cyndi Lauper and rapper Fat Joe are all set to serenade the crowd. Comedians Chris Distefano and Sam Morril are also headlining.<\/p>\n
Scores of celebrities, athletes, business leaders and other prominent New York figures are also set to attend. <\/p>\n

Dolan is offering The Garden rent-free for the event, and will be footing all production and operating costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we\u2019re trying to do is not be political with it. Administrations come, administrations go. The NYPD is always there. We\u2019re really just focused on them, I hope we can all agree that we should be grateful for the efforts of the NYPD,\u201d Dolan said.<\/p>\n
Dolan said the campaign is, in part, a response to \u201crhetoric out there that is condemning the police.\u201d Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wish we could have them all, but if we had them all, then there\u2019d be nobody protecting the rest of us,\u201d he said of the force, which has about 33,000 officers and 15,000 civilian employees.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe think that in your and my world, where there\u2019s so much cynicism and negativity, that this was an opportunity to do something really positive for New York. And the NYPD is a really big piece of New York,\u201d Dolan added. <\/p>\n
Madison Square Garden has a history of rallying New Yorkers for big civic events, such as \u201cThe Concert for New York City\u201d following the 9\/11 attacks, \u201cFrom the Big Apple to the Big Easy\u201d after Hurricane Katrina and \u201c12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief\u201d following Super Storm Sandy.<\/p>\n
The special NYPD event will take place weeks after two police officers were pelted with snowballs while responding to a large snowball fight at Washington Square Park, leaving them with minor injuries, authorities said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody I tell this to is excited about it, but I also have to tell them, \u2018You can\u2019t go, because you\u2019re not a policeman\u2019,\u201d Dolan quipped about the concert.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope it goes on forever.
