The Memphis Grizzlies brought the effort to FedExforum Wednesday night and it resulted in a 125-118 win over the Denver Nuggets, snapping an eight-game losing streak and restoring a level of identity that had been missing in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
From the opening tip, Memphis played with purpose. Not rushed, not reckless. Intentional. The Grizzlies pressed, crowded space, and forced Denver into uncomfortable decisions. Every loose ball was contested. Every possession carried weight.<\/p>\n
This was built on effort, not shot-making.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was the best type of win,\u201d head coach Tuomas Iisalo said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t one of those games where we were shooting lights out\u2026 This came through with very active defense and everybody sharing the ball.\u201d<\/p>\n
That approach showed up most clearly against Nikola Joki\u0107. Memphis did not rely on one look. They sent multiple bodies, shrank the floor, and forced him to make decisions early and often.<\/p>\n
\u201cI liked the way our guys kept him guessing today,\u201d Iisalo said. \u201cJust the really hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Joki\u0107 still produced, but he never dictated the game. Memphis made every touch difficult and disrupted the rhythm Denver depends on, forcing him into one of his sloppier nights handling the ball.<\/p>\n
Denver head coach David Adelman pointed directly to that pressure.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey just surrounded him,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cWhen he turned to go to the basket, there were three or four people around him.\u201d<\/p>\n
That congestion did not just impact Joki\u0107 individually. It disrupted everything around him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt affected us,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cThey picked people up and made other people handle the ball\u2026 That leads to turnovers and rushed offense.\u201d<\/p>\n
Memphis turned those rushed moments into opportunity, flipping defense into offense and controlling the tempo.<\/p>\n
On the other end, Ty Jerome set the tone, finishing with 21 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists \u2014 steady from start to finish. He scored when needed and created when the defense adjusted, keeping Memphis connected offensively.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was just clinical right from the get-go,\u201d Iisalo said. \u201cHe just had everything on a string tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jerome kept the focus where Memphis needs it. \u201cWe\u2019ve been practicing really hard. Guys are picking up good habits,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to improve our habits every day\u2026 and keep getting better every day.\u201d<\/p>\n
That consistency showed across the roster. Olivier-Maxence Prosper added 19 points. GG Jackson II contributed 16. Taylor Hendricks delivered one of the most impactful defensive performances of the night with six steals, and three blocks to go along with 13 points.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why I prided myself to be an amazing defensive player,\u201d Hendricks said. \u201cI\u2019m in the process right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
His impact was immediate.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gets the team fired up,\u201d he added. \u201cWe can turn that to easy offense and get a win.\u201d<\/p>\n
Memphis did exactly that, turning defensive pressure into pace and pace into separation.<\/p>\n
The shift came in the third quarter. Memphis created space with a decisive run that pushed the lead into double digits. Stops turned into transition. Quick decisions led to clean looks. From there, the Grizzlies controlled the game.<\/p>\n
Denver made pushes, but Memphis answered each one. The Grizzlies stayed composed, executed late, and closed with the same energy they opened with.<\/p>\n
Afterward, Adelman kept it direct. \u201cEnergy and focus,\u201d he said. \u201cReally bad loss for us\u2026 they just outplayed us tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Memphis, that was the point. This was not about a perfect night. It was about commitment, execution, and a group willing to do the work on both ends of the floor.<\/p>\n
The losing streak is over. The standard is not.<\/p>\n
Wednesday night inside FedExForum showed what Memphis can look like when it commits to the work.<\/p>\n
