PITTSBURGH (WLUC) – The Grand Valley State women\u2019s basketball team is heading back to the Final Four after a dominant 96-48 win over Carson-Newman on Tuesday. <\/p>\n
The defending national champions are the No. 1-seed in Pittsburgh and are led by Escanaba graduate Nicole Kamin. She put up 16 points, five rebounds and five steals for the Lakers in the quarterfinal. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a blessing,\u201d Kamin said. \u201cThese girls are my best friends. We\u2019re not ready to be done yet. So, one game at a time and being able to play another game is an honor. I\u2019m so thankful to be able to do it with this group of girls.\u201c<\/p>\n
The redshirt senior reflected on how far she\u2019s come since she was suiting up for the Escanaba Eskymos.<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember getting out of high school and being a freshman and it was just like, I felt like every play it was Coach Mike [Williams] getting on me,\u201d Kamin said. \u201cBut I\u2019m so thankful for that because he believed in me. That\u2019s what it meant at the end of the day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lakers head coach Mike Williams says playing in a conference as tough as the GLIAC has helped them now in the NCAA tournament. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s a really good conference,\u201d Williams said. \u201cThat being said, I think that prepares you like no other. You\u2019re playing in a battle every time you play. The stronger, obviously, the strength of your schedule, I think does prepare you for these moments.\u201d<\/p>\n
GVSU will play on Thursday in the Final Four. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. ET against UAH (The University of Alabama in Huntsville). <\/p>\n
