Like slices of sandwich bread in a plastic bag or patrons in the latest hottest nightclub, the teams chasing the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference could not be more tightly packed.<\/p>\n
With a little more than two weeks remaining in the NBA regular season, just two games separate the six teams ranked fifth through 10th in the East. The Hawks<\/a> (41-32) currently hold the No. 5 spot, but the Raptors<\/a> (40-32), 76ers<\/a> (40-33), Magic<\/a> (39-34), Hornets<\/a> (39-34) and Heat<\/a> (39-34) are within sniffing distance.<\/p>\n The scramble for the No. 5 spot \u2014 as well as the No. 6 spot, for that matter \u2014 is key because the top six seeds in the conference will be guaranteed a playoff spot and avoid the Play-In Tournament.<\/p>\n On Friday, Bam Adebayo<\/a> and Miami have a chance to make up some ground in the drive for No. 5 when they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. The game will be the second in three nights between the teams.<\/p>\n The Cavaliers (45-28) are well on their way to a top-four seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They enter Friday in fourth in the East but are just two games behind the Knicks<\/a> for the No. 3 spot.<\/p>\n Cleveland is a 5.5-point favorite over Miami on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n While Cavaliers vs. Heat is the marquee non-college basketball attraction on Friday, there are other options on a sporting landscape that includes nine other\u00a0NBA<\/a> matchups and a full MLB<\/a> schedule.
