First, the good news. Philadelphia was not without a representative in the NCAA Mens Tournament once again<\/a> in 2026 as Villanova<\/a> and Penn made it in. We all found out Sunday evening if the Wildcats have made it to the 2026 Men\u2019s NCAA Tournament<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But like Penn\u200a\u2014\u200athis postseason<\/a> for the #8 Wildcats was short-lived. Despite 25 points from Bryce Lindsay\u200a\u2014\u200aUtah State secured<\/a> a 15\u20133 second<\/a> half run to distance themselves and defeat Villanova 86\u201376. Head Coach Kevin Willard even remarked<\/a> that he would<\/a> fire his assistant coaching<\/a> staff attributed to poor defensive<\/a> play.<\/p>\n

But ten years after Villanova\u2019s magical run that ended<\/a> with Kris Jenkins buzzer-beating three pointer that was heard around Philadelphia and won the 2016 NCAA Tournament for the Wildcats\u2014 Villanova had to make a spectacular run of their own without several<\/a> talent pieces.<\/p>\n

As reported by The Philadelphia<\/a> Inquirer<\/a> and Clutchpoints\u200a<\/a>\u2014\u200aGuard, Temple Transfer, and West Catholic High\u2019s Zion<\/a> Stanford has reportedly<\/a> left the Villanova<\/a> Basketball Program<\/a> and intends to enter the Transfer<\/a> Portal. Stanford did not play in the last two games<\/a> of the season against DePaul and Xavier<\/a>. Last month\u200a\u2014\u200astarting Forward Matt Hodges was also lost for the season with a torn<\/a> ACL.<\/p>\n

Like Penn\u200a\u2014\u200aVillanova will now need to look toward next season for the next chapter in the history of this great program.<\/p>\n
