{"id":686989,"date":"2026-03-30T00:07:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T00:07:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/686989\/"},"modified":"2026-03-30T00:07:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T00:07:12","slug":"providence-basketball-star-arrested-on-domestic-violence-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/686989\/","title":{"rendered":"Providence basketball star arrested on domestic violence charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Providence College basketball standout was arrested Sunday morning overnight and charged with domestic violence and disorderly conduct. <\/p>\n<p>Duncan Powell, a fifth-year senior who just wrapped up his college career at Providence this past season, is alleged to have threatened his ex-girlfriend and her friends, <a href=\"https:\/\/turnto10.com\/news\/local\/providence-college-basketball-player-arrested-facing-domestic-violence-charge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according NBC 10<\/a> in Rhode Island. <\/p>\n<p>Duncan Powell\u2019s mugshot after he was arrested for a domestic violence incident.  Cranston Police Department<\/p>\n<p>Local police in Cranston, Rhode Island, were called to a location at Plainfield Pike after 1 a.m. overnight on Saturday into Sunday morning. <\/p>\n<p>There, a woman informed local police that an ex-boyfriend of her friend was outside her residence with a gun, and the person was later identified as Powell. <\/p>\n<p>Powell\u2019s ex-girlfriend claimed to police that the Providence forward had struck her earlier in the day, and she showed one of the officers that the hit resulted in a large bruise on her leg.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan Powell (31) of Providence was arrested for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she alleged that there was a tracker at the bottom of her car, while telling officers that Powell had been trying to stalk her and find her location on multiple occasions. <\/p>\n<p>A witness at the house alleged Powell came to the location earlier and threatened to kill everyone in the house, followed by himself.<\/p>\n<p>Powell reportedly stayed at the front door of the house for approximately four minutes before leaving the area.<\/p>\n<p>A police report indicated that Powell continually called his ex-girlfriend as police were having a conversation with her.<\/p>\n<p>One of the officers answered her phone to speak with Powell, and the cop reportedly heard him walking, where he then turned to see the forward heading toward him with a hand in his sweatshirt. <\/p>\n<p>Powell was subsequently arrested at gunpoint.<\/p>\n<p>Duncan Powell hard fouls Bryce Hopkins (23) of the St. John\u2019s Red Storm during the college basketball game between St John\u2019s Red Storm and Providence Friars on February 14, 2026, at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, RI.
