Although trash talk is part of the NBA’s fabric, like dunks and crossovers, there are players who rarely engage in it, often content to let their on-court performances do all the talking. A player who belongs in that category is all-time great\u00a0LeBron James<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although the King still throws verbal jabs every now and then, especially when he’s in a feisty mood, he routinely just goes about his business on the court. But according to his former teammate\u00a0Channing Frye<\/a>, there have been times when LeBron has gone out of his way to make his presence known to the opponent’s bench.<\/p>\n

One of those moments came during Channing’s time with the Phoenix Suns. He recalled that during that game, LeBron was just going through the motions, which played perfectly for the Suns. However, a young player on the Suns’ bench decided he wanted to agitate the 6’9″ superstar, and Phoenix paid dearly for it.<\/p>\n

Don’t poke the lion<\/p>\n

Lions are generally lazy creatures, often seen just lying on the African Savannah, content to let the lioness do all the hunting. However, they’re called the “king of the jungle” for a reason; they’re vicious when they have to be, which was what LeBron immediately became when someone dared to talk trash to him.<\/p>\n

“I was in Phoenix, and the dude, there was a G-League guy, or he was on our team, but he was in G-League, too,”Channing\u00a0began<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“And so PJ Tucker was guarding him. And he was kind of chilling,”\u00a0the sweet-shooting big man continued, referring to LeBron’s disposition at that time.\u00a0“They were up by like, you know \u2014 we were up by five or something like that. Third quarter. He shoots that turnaround fadeaway. And the dude on the bench goes, ‘That’s what we want!'”<\/p>\n

Upon hearing this, LeBron’s ears perked up. His attention piqued and the Suns’ coaching staff immediately realized that one of their players had made a grave mistake.<\/p>\n

“Our defensive coach, Mike Longabardi, stands up. It’s like, ‘Shut the f\u2014k up! You shut the f\u2014k up. You don’t talk to him!'”\u00a0Channing narrated.<\/p>\n

However, it was too little, too late, as LBJ had undoubtedly heard the taunt and responded in kind, saying,” ‘Okay, that’s what we doing.'”<\/p>\n

The Suns knew they were in trouble<\/p>\n

The moment the Suns’ bench heard what LeBron said, they realized they were going to be in for a long night. While LeBron never had a reputation for being someone players never dared to provoke, much like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, he’s plenty capable of dispensing payback when needed. And in that situation, LeBron set out to remind the young fellow who he was and what he could do.<\/p>\n

“Everyone goes, ‘Ah, damn it, man. Come on. Here we go.’ Hey, even PJ was like, ‘Man, shut the hell up, man!'”Channing continued.<\/p>\n

“The next play down \u2014 same play. ‘He’s too small!’ Same play down. Now we got a double team. And he just went\u2026”Frye added.\u00a0“Bron doesn’t really trash-talk unless he’s feeling good. But if you say something to him, he’ll make a point.”<\/p>\n

As the saying goes, it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie. But in this case, it was best for the Suns not to awaken a lion, which they unfortunately did.<\/p>\n
