The Chicago Bulls have waived shooting guard Jaden Ivey after he made recent anti-LGBTQ comments, ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania reported. The Bulls\u2019 move comes after the Chicago Sun-Times\u2019 Joe Cowley reported<\/a> on Monday that the team was working on an exit strategy for Ivey.<\/p>\n

Ivey had increasingly been posting on social media about his religious beliefs. The Bulls\u2019 decision reportedly came after he criticized the NBA for celebrating Pride Month, which he called \u201cunrighteousness.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world proclaims LGBTQ, right? They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA does too. They show it to the world. They say, \u2018Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n

The Bulls move on from Ivey after acquiring him in February, along with Mike Conley, in a three-team trade that sent Kevin Huerter and center Dario \u0160ari\u0107 and a future first-round pick swap to the Detroit Pistons and gave salary-cap relief to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ivey and Conley are now both no longer with the Bulls, after the team moved on from Conley before he played for the team.<\/p>\n

Before his comments, Ivey struggled to find his place on the Bulls. Ivey played in four games and made three starts. Ivey was ruled out for the season with a knee injury on Thursday.<\/p>\n

After what Ivey reportedly believed was his first career DNP, he told The Athletic\u2019s Joel Lorenzi<\/a> he was no longer the player he used to be after suffering a knee injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure people can call it out \u2014 I\u2019m not the same player I used to be,\u201d he said. \u201c[The knee soreness is] why. I\u2019m not the J.I. I used to be. The old J.I. is dead. I\u2019m alive in Christ no matter what the basketball setting is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before Ivey was traded, he struggled to regain his play and athleticism from his early seasons with the Pistons, who took him with the fifth overall pick out of Purdue in the 2022 NBA Draft. Ivey missed the first 15 games of the season this year after undergoing an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee.<\/p>\n

Last season, Ivey missed the second half of the season and the Pistons\u2019 playoff run with a broken fibula in his left leg. Ivey was averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 assists and 4 rebounds before he went down last season.<\/p>\n
