Sixers rookie big man Charles Bassey saw a season-high nine minutes on November 16 against the Utah Jazz.<\/p>\n

Not long after Charles Bassey<\/a> completed a second stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, he landed an opportunity to play for the Sixers\u2019 rival, the Boston Celtics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old center was playing in the NBA G League for the Santa Cruz Warriors<\/a> when the Sixers gave him a call.<\/p>\n

With the front court dealing with some notable concerns, beginning with the veteran center, Joel Embiid, the Sixers needed some depth at the center position.<\/p>\n

On January 26, the Sixers signed Bassey to a 10-day contract. When the initial deal expired, he landed another one on February 5.<\/p>\n

Bassey ended up just seeing the court once for the Sixers during that time. After getting four minutes of action in a little over two weeks, Bassey returned to the NBA G League. The Celtics hit him with an offer on March 15.<\/p>\n

Recently, Bassey addressed his situation, expressing his interest in sticking with the Celtics throughout the remainder of the 2025-2026 NBA season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is professional,\u201d Bassey told CelticsBlog<\/a>. \u201cEverything the coaches do, the players \u2014 it\u2019s just direct. It\u2019s just fun because everybody comes in and works, and they come in with a smile on their faces. It\u2019s been great, to be honest. It\u2019s been good being here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou just gotta come ready to walk, man,\u201d Bassey told Celtics Blog. \u201cYou never know \u2014 there might be opportunities. So you just gotta come ready to just work, show the coaches and the guys you\u2019re ready to work and help the team any way you can.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Celtics could keep Bassey around beyond his two temporary deals. Or, they could look elsewhere after seeing what the former Sixer brings to the table.<\/p>\n

Bassey\u2019s current contract expires on April 3. The Celtics\u2019 plans beyond that date are unclear.<\/p>\n

From Bassey\u2019s perspective, it doesn\u2019t come as a surprise that he is embracing his time in Boston. For starters, they are a proven winning organization.<\/p>\n

Once again, they are playoff-bound this year, as they are sitting second in the Eastern Conference with a 2.5-game lead over the third-seeded New York Knicks<\/a>. Despite playing a large chunk of the season shorthanded, the Celtics continued to prove they are a top-tier NBA organization.<\/p>\n

For Bassey, a player who has struggled to stick with one team long-term, that\u2019s an attractive situation to be in.<\/p>\n

The Sixers drafted Charles Bassey out of Western Kentucky in 2021.<\/p>\n

At the time, he was the 53rd overall pick. Bassey landed in Philadelphia as one of multiple second-rounders that year.<\/p>\n

Bassey spent one full season with the Sixers in 2021-2022. He didn\u2019t make the final roster ahead of his sophomore season. After getting cut by the Sixers, Bassey landed with the San Antonio Spurs.<\/p>\n

Injuries affected Bassey\u2019s time with the Spurs, and his stint there was up after year three in 2024-2025.<\/p>\n

Bassey had a short run with the Memphis Grizzlies<\/a> back in the fall of the 2025-2026 season. Most of his year was with the Warriors\u2019 G League squad.<\/p>\n

Right now, the plan for the former Sixer is to return to California after his time in Boston, but the Celtics have a decision to make on the Bassey front soon.<\/p>\n
