Golden State Warriors<\/a> star Stephen Curry<\/a> didn\u2019t ask to be part of this. He is anyway.<\/p>\n

Hours after the Chicago Bulls<\/a> waived guard Jaden Ivey<\/a> on Monday, Ivey went live on Instagram and pulled Curry into it \u2014 directly, and by name.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why you got Steph Curry\u2026 y\u2019all think he\u2019s a Christian,\u201d Ivey said<\/a>. \u201cHe don\u2019t know Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n

Within minutes, the clip spread across social media, drawing attention across the league and placing the Warriors\u2019 franchise cornerstone in the middle of a controversy he had no direct involvement in.<\/p>\n

Ivey Pushes Back on Bulls\u2019 Decision\"Jaden<\/p>\n

Ivey didn\u2019t stop at naming Curry. He also challenged the Bulls\u2019 reasoning for cutting him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said your conduct has been detrimental to the team\u2026 I haven\u2019t even been with the team because I\u2019ve been rehabbing,\u201d Ivey said. \u201cSo how is my conduct detrimental to the team?\u201d<\/p>\n

He doubled down moments later.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re lying, saying my conduct is detrimental to the team,\u201d he added. \u201cAll I\u2019m preaching about is Jesus Christ and they waived me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bulls\u2019 initial statement offered no additional detail beyond the standard \u201cconduct detrimental\u201d language. Ivey filled in the gap with his own explanation.<\/p>\n

A Direct Hit at Warriors Star\u2019s Very Public Faith<\/p>\n

Curry\u2019s faith has never been a footnote.<\/p>\n

He has referenced Bible verses throughout his career, most notably Philippians 4:13 \u2014 \u201cI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me\u201d \u2014 a phrase that has appeared on his shoes and in interviews over the years.<\/p>\n

The comments run counter to how openly Curry has spoken about his faith throughout his career.<\/p>\n

Curry has not publicly responded, and there is no indication he was aware of the remarks at the time they were made.<\/p>\n

Bulls Point to Standards, Not Details<\/p>\n

Inside the organization, coach Billy Donovan offered the most complete explanation of the team\u2019s thinking.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s a certain level of standards and expectations that are here,\u201d Donovan said<\/a>. \u201cWe have people from all different walks of life working in the building and players from all different walks of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut one is, we\u2019ve got to all be professional. I think there\u2019s got to be a high level of respect for one another, and we got to help each other and then be accountable to those standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was the clearest look at the Bulls\u2019 position, even if the team stopped short of directly linking those standards to the decision to waive Ivey.<\/p>\n

This Didn\u2019t Come Out of Nowhere<\/p>\n

The move had been building.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0Chicago Sun-Times<\/a>\u00a0report earlier in the day indicated the Bulls were already working toward an exit involving Ivey before the waiver became official.<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, Ivey has posted and spoken extensively about faith and personal beliefs, drawing both support and criticism. By the time Chicago made its decision, the situation had already gained momentum.<\/p>\n

Bigger Picture for Warriors<\/p>\n

For the Warriors, this remains external \u2014 but it places their most recognizable player in the middle of a conversation he didn\u2019t start.<\/p>\n

Curry\u2019s name carries weight. When it surfaces, the story follows.<\/p>\n

With his release, Ivey is now an NBA<\/a> free agent, opening the door for teams across the league to evaluate him heading into the offseason.<\/p>\n

In theory, that includes Golden State. In practice, there has been no indication of interest from the Warriors, and no reporting has linked the team to Ivey. For now, it\u2019s hard to imagine they will show interest in the once-promising former No. 5 pick after challenging Curry\u2019s Christian faith.<\/p>\n
