Mark Cuban has discussed his biggest regret after selling the Dallas Mavericks<\/a>, given what he knows now.<\/p>\n

Cuban sold his majority stake in the team over two years ago. And, since then, they\u2019ve traded Luka Doncic in one of the most lopsided deals in NBA history, although they somehow landed the No. 1 overall pick that handed them the rights to Cooper Flagg.<\/p>\n

The celebrity businessman suggests he would have still sold the franchise had he known how things would turn out. However, he does regret selling to the people he sold to, i.e., Miriam Adelson and son-in-law Patrick Dumont, the Las Vegas Sands CEO.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t regret selling,\u201d he said during a recent appearance on the Intersections podcast<\/a>. \u201cI regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I\u2019ll leave it at that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuban still owns a 27 percent stake in the team and thought he would retain control of basketball operations after selling the team for $3.5 billion at the end of 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing\u2019s really changed except my bank account,\u201d he told reporters back then.<\/p>\n

That didn\u2019t appear to be the case when then-general manager Nico Harrison traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis. Harrsion has since been fired, with the team booting him after a 3-8 start to the season.<\/p>\n

Davis didn\u2019t last in Dallas either, and he didn’t play much basketball. The Mavs traded him to the Washington Wizards while he was sidelined with a hand injury. The injury was his fourth since joining the team.<\/p>\n

Cuban suggested that the emotions involved in being a team owner took a toll on him, which was one of his reasons for selling.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou hear the passion and everything,\u201d he said. \u201cNow imagine going up and down like that every single game. That\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not something he wanted for his children either.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy kids, they were coming of age where they would have the mindset that they want to work at the Mavs,\u201d he added. \u201cI didn\u2019t want them to. If fans don\u2019t like what you\u2019re doing or the team\u2019s not doing well, you\u2019re the worst human being on the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mavericks are 13th in the Western Conference with a 24-51 record after a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.<\/p>\n
