The Washington Wizards finally have a future. GM Will Dawkins is fearless. The best Wizards team in nearly a decade is coming up in just seven months.

March 5 was the official start of something special.

The Wizards’ stadium erupted when Trae Young, the four-time All-Star, was announced. Capital One had its highest attendance in over a month, only barely being beaten by a game against the Knicks.

That wasn’t the first time the stadium was loud for Trae. In a weekday game against Houston, Trae was ejected for running onto the court during an altercation with Jamir Watkins and Tari Eason.

Trae gained the hearts of many. Wizards fans cheered as he exited through the tunnel, and would later embrace the fans and his team over X.

Trae’s Wizards debut came against the Jazz, a team over 1,800 miles away. Ooh’s and aahs rained around the stadium as DC’s new franchise point guard showed off his flashiness. It was different from what Wizards fans have seen in years. His second game was even better, with 30-foot bombs and the Trae to Tre connection strengthening.

He has lit a new spark into this fanbase.

THAT Duo

Trae Young and Anthony Davis.

Two of the best players to suit up for the Capital in this century. Having two legit star pieces like this isn’t something many fans are used to.

The last time there were two true All-Star players together on the Wizards was five years ago, with Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal. Although those two took their squad to the playoffs, they may not mesh as well as Trae and AD will. A dynamic point guard who bends the court at his will with a game-breaking big man who controls the paint on both sides — that’s a match made in heaven.

That isn’t all, though. Imagine if the Wizards added a top-three pick to their roster. Darryn Peterson, AJ Dybantsa, Cam Boozer, Caleb Wilson, Kingston Flemings, Darius Acuff, and Mikel Brown Jr. are some of the high-end names that make up one of the best draft classes in recent memory, and the Wizards have the second-best odds to land a top pick. Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Will Riley are all going to have another summer of improvement. Fans have to be excited for this team.

The World is on Notice

For the first time in years, the Wizards are getting positive media attention.

While they are usually a laughingstock, a team commonly made fun of, things have switched. Former players and media members are outspoken about the franchise’s growth and their confidence in Young and Davis to turn this franchise around. Paul Pierce even stated that he thinks the Wizards will be better than the reigning Eastern champion Pacers next season.

Current players are also speaking out about this team. Kevin Durant said that they have a bright future. LeBron James personally talked about Sarr, George, and Tre Johnson and their encouraging signs. These are all-time legends shouting out the growth of this squad.

Lebron James is intrigued by what the Wizards are building:

“I love the young kid from France [Alex Sarr]. Love the kid [Kyshawn] George as well.
