Demonstrators, petitioners and organizers gathered at the steps of the California State Capitol from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. to protest the recent actions by President Donald Trump and his administration.<\/p>\n<p>These protests come after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/one-month-of-israel-us-war-on-iran-a-timeline\/article70800535.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">escalations<\/a> in the conflict between the United States alongside Israel and Iran. They are also in response to President Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/03\/29\/nx-s1-5765454\/tsa-paychecks-ice-airports-tom-homan#:~:text=Immigration%20and%20Customs%20Enforcement%20agents%20could%20remain%20at%20U.S.%20airports%20even%20after%20Transportation%20Security%20Administration%20workers%20receive%20their%20paychecks%2C%20according%20to%20White%20House%20border%20czar%20Tom%20Homan.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">deploying<\/a> the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement into airports due to the staffing shortages within the Transportation Security Administration, in addition to the continuing immigration detentions nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers, such as immigration attorney Karen Pedraza and Bishop Sandra Olewine, addressed the crowd from the steps of the Capitol. The speakers gave speeches meant to uplift listeners, urging them to continue standing up for peace, human rights and equality. Several singers also performed for the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president thinks his rule is absolute,\u201d the \u201cNo Kings\u201d website says. \u201cBut in America, we don\u2019t have kings \u2014 and we won\u2019t back down against chaos, corruption and cruelty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Around 2:30 p.m., protesters marched down Capitol Mall toward the Tower Bridge and temporarily blocked traffic. The marchers could be heard chanting, \u201cNo ICE, no KKK, no fascist USA!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration at the Capitol was just one within Sacramento County and the greater area, with other gatherings at locations like West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Orangevale, Galt and more. Nationwide, there were an estimated 3,000 protest gatherings in both urban and rural areas of the U.S., according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/03\/28\/nx-s1-5763702\/no-kings-saturday-protests#:~:text=Organizers%20for%20No%20Kings%2C%20a%20progressive%20coalition%20of%20activists%2C%20planned%20more%20than%203%2C000%20events%20nationwide%2C%20with%20several%20more%20planned%20abroad%2C%20including%20in%20Mexico%20and%20Canada.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">NPR<\/a> and the \u201cNo Kings\u201d website.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-100520\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/NoKings032826-33-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"  \/>A crowd of protesters gather in front of the California State Capitol during the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest on Saturday, March 28, 2026. Chynoweth said she attended her first \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest on Oct. 18, 2025 in Roseville, and her main motive for returning was the Trump administration\u2019s immigration enforcement tactics.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/statehornet.com\/2025\/10\/sacramento-speaks-out-no-kings-protest-at-the-state-capitol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sacramento speaks out: \u2018No Kings\u2019 protest at the State Capitol<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This time, she attended with a friend from the <a href=\"https:\/\/trinitycathedral.org\/history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Trinity Episcopal Cathedral<\/a>, who inspired her to become a greeter for the event. Both were handing out small flyers with information on how people can take further action against the Trump administration following the protest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the thing that disturbs me the most is just acting as if he\u2019s the king and can do anything he wants to,\u201d Chynoweth said. \u201cHe\u2019s a terrible person, but what he\u2019s doing to our government is even worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc10.com\/article\/news\/local\/sacramento\/no-kings-protest-ca-capitol\/103-54e407ae-f368-4354-b7f2-3ef2eabe9a2e#:~:text=\u201cThe%20only%20people%20who%20care%20about%20these%20Trump%20Derangement%20Therapy%20Sessions%20are%20the%20reporters%20who%20are%20paid%20to%20cover%20them%2C\u201d%20White%20House%20spokesperson%20Abigail%20Jackson%20said%20in%20a%20statement.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">statement from the White House<\/a>, spokesperson Abigail Jackson described protests like \u201cNo Kings\u201d as \u201cTrump derangement therapy sessions\u201d and said that the only people who care about the protests are the reporters paid to cover it. National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Maureen O\u2019Toole <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/no-kings-protests-minnesota-trump-springsteen-2fab6b3a64e5275bcf111e8dd6d2e075\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">called<\/a> the protests \u201cHate America Rallies,\u201d claiming that they encourage violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not the way American democracy should be,\u201d Chynoweth said. \u201cIt\u2019s very hard to keep doing that in the face of an administration that just doesn\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sunny Gibson spent the afternoon in the Sacramento sun among the other demonstrators, waving their sign as cars passed by. Gibson has attended the two previous \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests in October and June 2025, advocating against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/politics\/senate-report-details-dozens-of-cases-of-medical-neglect-in-federal-immigration-detention-centers#:~:text=A%20U.S.%20Senate,vast%20detention%20system.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the inhumane treatment of immigrants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, it\u2019s a great time being out here; it\u2019s a community,\u201d Gibson said. \u201cIt\u2019s an ability to just say what you feel and how to get that message out to the most amount of people as you can. It\u2019s not something that you need to be afraid of, it\u2019s what we should do as Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another attendee, Victor Giannini, was also advocating against the inhumane treatment of immigrants and recent Trump administration political decisions. He wandered around the edge of the main crowd, holding a poster in support of the immigrant community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything as bad in my life,\u201d Giannini said. \u201cEverywhere makes mistakes, but I think, as a nation, we went down a really bad path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like the last two \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests, this event was organized by several organizations. (<a href=\"https:\/\/statehornet.com\/staff_profile\/aj-tinkess\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AJ Tinkess<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>One organization that was tabling at the event was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/csus.dems\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">College Democrats of Sacramento State<\/a>, who were co-tabling with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csus.edu\/college\/social-sciences-interdisciplinary-studies\/renaissance-society\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Sac State\u2019s Renaissance Society<\/a>. Two Sac State students, sophomore political science major Daniel Smith and freshman political science major Dailin Brown, were encouraging civil discourse and promoting peer advocacy among students and attendees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important, when you have frustrations and concerns, to know that you\u2019re not alone in that,\u201d Smith said. \u201cBeing out here, connecting organizations to the people, but also just connecting people to people is really important. Especially in times like these where people are scared and they want to know what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown and Smith said Saturday was the first time that College Democrats formally made an appearance at a \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest, though its members have participated in various movements and past events. They both said that protests like \u201cNo Kings\u201d are important to make an impact on the community, and they wanted to help connect attendees with other people, share resources and spread knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are Republicans that are here; there are Conservatives that are here,\u201d Brown said. \u201cIt\u2019s not just Liberal, Democratic and Left.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown said that it was comforting to see people gather together for the same cause, noting how everyone came from various backgrounds of ages and places.
