{"id":691936,"date":"2026-04-01T13:44:13","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/691936\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T13:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:44:13","slug":"likely-trade-candidates-offer-prime-opportunities-for-the-pistons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/691936\/","title":{"rendered":"Likely trade candidates offer prime opportunities for the Pistons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5i\">The Detroit Pistons are rolling to the first seed in the Eastern Conference, but regardless of what happens this season, they will be looking for upgrades in the summer and should have plenty of opportunities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5l\">Bleacher Report put together a list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25412572-1-player-every-nba-team-most-likely-hit-trade-block-next\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">player most likely to be traded<\/a> from every\u00a0team,\u00a0and there are names that could interest the Pistons depending on how big a swing they want to take.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sam Hauser\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5r\">The Celtics will be up against the aprons again and may look to\u00a0jettison\u00a0a contract\u00a0that\u00a0would be easy to move. Hauser\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0the most dynamic\u00a0player,\u00a0but he does one thing very well, which is shoot the 3-ball, which happens to be a skill the Pistons need.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5u\">Hauser has shot over 41 percent from\u00a0long\u00a0range in his\u00a0career,\u00a0and his $10 million contract would be easy for the Pistons to absorb if the Celtics are just looking to cut money. This\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be a splashy\u00a0move,\u00a0but the Pistons may not be looking for one if they make a deep playoff run.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Michael\u00a0Porter Jr.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"60\">I wish the Nets would just trade this guy already so I can stop hearing about him. MPJ will be on an expiring contract, so the Pistons\u00a0probably wouldn\u2019t\u00a0have to give up much to get him, though matching salaries\u00a0wouldn&#8217;t\u00a0be easy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"63\">My guess\u00a0is that\u00a0the Pistons will look elsewhere. Next!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kyrie Irving\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"69\">Hmmmm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6c\">Dallas is clearly rebuilding around Cooper Flagg and may not see Irving on that timeline.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0coming off\u00a0a serious injury\u00a0that cost him his season, so I\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0imagine Kyrie will garner a king\u2019s ransom in a trade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6f\">On paper,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pistonpowered.com\/detroit-pistons-ideal-trade-target-is-just-about-healthy-ready-help-team-win\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Irving\u00a0is exactly what the Pistons need<\/a>, as\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0a creator who can play off the ball as\u00a0well,\u00a0and\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0an excellent 3-point shooter. He also has championship chops and has been in as many big games as\u00a0just about anyone\u00a0in the league.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6i\">He had success with another ball dominant guard (Luka)\u00a0so he\u00a0would fit right in with the Pistons.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6l\">The issues with Irving are\u00a0obvious;\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a034 years old and just off an injury and has two expensive years left on his deal. He may also demand an extension to stay around,\u00a0so would potentially come with long-term risk.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6o\">I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0rule\u00a0Irving out, but the money would be tough to\u00a0match,\u00a0and he comes with risk the Pistons have been reluctant to take on when it comes to health.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Obi Toppin\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6u\">I wrote about him already as a potential stop gap <a href=\"https:\/\/pistonpowered.com\/tobias-harris-replacement-detroit-pistons-can-have-free\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">replacement for Tobias Harris<\/a>, as his deal is cheap enough that the Pistons could potentially have them both if Harris wants to stay on a reduced salary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-17\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6x\">Toppin is a versatile defender and has played in some big games.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0not a bad shooter,\u00a0but\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0only played 17 games this season.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0been good of late and very efficient from\u00a02-point range in that small sample, hitting 75 percent of his shots from inside the arc.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"70\">He\u2019s\u00a0not a flashy\u00a0option, but the Pistons could\u00a0likely have\u00a0him for\u00a0nothing and potentially platoon him with someone else.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Wiggins\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-20\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">The Heat will\u00a0likely be\u00a0active this summer and may have to move Wiggins to accommodate bigger stars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-21\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"79\">The\u00a031-year-old\u00a0is still playing at\u00a0a high level, averaging 15 a game and doing it efficiently, shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and over 40 percent from 3-point range.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-22\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7c\">Wiggins may have never developed into the superstar\u00a0people\u00a0thought\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0be, but\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0a very good\u00a0role player. He will be\u00a0on\u00a0the final year of his deal ($30 million) if he takes his\u00a0player\u00a0option, so\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0another guy who would be nice, but the money might be hard to match.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-23\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7f\">The Heat will also be looking to include him in a\u00a0deal\u00a0for star if they make one, so\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not likely the Pistons are involved unless\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0as\u00a0a third team.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of the guards from the Magic\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-25\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7l\">If the Magic\u00a0flame\u00a0out, they may be busy this summer, as their <a href=\"https:\/\/pistonpowered.com\/teams-cap-hell-detroit-pistons-should-target-cade-cunningham-partner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">roster is about to get\u00a0very\u00a0expensive,<\/a>\u00a0and they\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0very good.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-26\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7o\">Will that make Anthony Black or Jalen Suggs available? If so, count me as officially interested, as either one would be\u00a0nice fit\u00a0next to Cade Cunningham\u00a0and\u00a0make the Pistons defense even better.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alex Caruso\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-28\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7u\">The Thunder have too many\u00a0good players, a rough problem to have, but they are set to be deep into the second apron, unfamiliar territory for a small market team.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-29\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7x\">Caruso seems the most likely to be moved, and\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0still an impactful player even though\u00a0he\u2019s\u00a0not been\u00a0nearly as\u00a0good this season offensively.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-30\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"80\">His best days do seem behind\u00a0him,\u00a0and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0a big contract to absorb ($60+ million for three seasons) for a guy on the downslide.
