MIAMI \u2014 Observations and other notes of interest from Monday night\u2019s 119-109 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u2013 The formula is apparent, evident, undeniable.<\/p>\n

\u2013 And at the highest level, still might not be enough.<\/p>\n

\u2013 At a talent deficit in this one, as often is the case, the Heat compensated for that deficit with hustle, energy and precision when needed.<\/p>\n

\u2013 So, yes, the cliche\u2019 all-the-little-things.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Which is what this roster is all about.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Bam Adebbayo filling the box score.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Pelle Larsson throwing around any and every body part.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Jaime Jaquez Jr. at relentless speed.<\/p>\n

\u2013 All of which was all the more impressive while playing on the second night of a back-to-back.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Erik Spoelstra is well aware that this is the only way for the 2025-26 Heat.<\/p>\n

\u2013 As he has frustratedly expressed after all the recent losses.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Yes, Tyler Herro and Norman Powell can score.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Yes, the offense was a hoot early in the season.<\/p>\n

\u2013 But as some sort of postseason looms, which likely will be more play-in, the question comes down to whether hustle can be enough.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Which based on the Heat\u2019s past two postseasons, already has offered an answer.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Still, had there been more nights like this recently, there at least could have been a better regular-season outcome.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Are the Heat good enough?<\/p>\n

\u2013 The roster has offered its answer with sobering realities, such as Sunday night\u2019s loss in Indiana.<\/p>\n

\u2013 But when they play hard, there still can be positive vibes.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Which were sorely needed on a night like this, after a night like Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u2013 With Powell missing a second consecutive game due to illness, Heat again opened with Herro,\u00a0 Adebayo, Larsson,\u00a0 Andrew Wiggins and Davion Mitchell.<\/p>\n

\u2013 The 76ers opened with Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, Dominick Barlow and VJ Edgecombe.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Kel\u2019el Ware this time was first off the Heat bench.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Jaquez then followed.<\/p>\n

\u2013 In another twist, it was then Dru Smith off the bench ahead of Kasparas Jakucionis.<\/p>\n

\u2013 With Simone Fontecchio making it nine deep.<\/p>\n

\u2013 A rotation that further tightened in the second half.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Spoelstra before the game again addressed the lagging defense.<\/p>\n

\u2013 \u201cI mean,\u201d he said, \u201cwe know what it is at this point. I mentioned it (Sunday) night, our guys want to. I feel like we have enough of the habits. We\u2019ve talked about it enough. And now it just needs to show when we need it the most.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2013 Spoelstra said there was no choice but to put Sunday\u2019s loss to the Pacers behind.<\/p>\n

\u2013 \u201cBy the time we got off the plane,\u201d he said of the overnight flight, \u201ceverything was just focused on this game.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2013 Spoelstra also acknowledged the need for better 3-point defense.<\/p>\n

\u2013 \u201cWe have to make those extra efforts to get guys off the line,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s as simple as that, but it\u2019s not easy to do. It just requires more.\u201d<\/p>\n
