They first faced off on January 21st, which resulted in a 122-109 victory by the Raptors. These two sides hold much different outlooks for the remainder of the season as Toronto attempts to make a final postseason push to maintain the best possible playoff seedings, while Sacramento is content limping to the finish line to maximize their lottery outlook.

Looking at the odds, the Raptors enter as 12.5-point favorites and hold -650 odds on the Moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. They enter this matchup on a four-game losing streak and have dropped six of their last seven. On the season, Sacramento has gone 31-45 against the spread, and the game total is 39-37 to the over/under.

Injuries have been a common theme for this Kings’ team. Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, and De’Andre Hunter have each been ruled out for the season, while Russell Westbrook and Keegan Murray have been ruled out for tonight. Of the available bodies, DeMar DeRozan headlines the production with averages of 18.5 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds. Sacramento has largely turned the season over to its youth, with players like Maxime Raynaud, Devin Carter, Daeqwon Plowden, Nique Clifford, and Dylan Cardwell each showing some encouraging flashes.

As a team, the Kings are averaging 110.7 points per game, which ranks 28th in the NBA. Sacramento also ranks 26th in offensive rating, 17th in field goal percentage, and 29th in three-point percentage this season. Defensively, opponents are scoring 121.8 points per game against Sacramento, which ranks 28th in the league. The Kings also rank 28th in defensive rating, 30th in opponents’ field goal percentage, and 29th in opponents’ three-point percentage.

The Toronto Raptors hold a 42-33 record on the season, which slots them in sixth-place in the Eastern Conference. They are in a tight race for playoff seedings, as the Raptors are a half-game behind the Atlanta Hawks for the fifth seed and hold a one-game lead over the 76ers for the seventh seed. Toronto enters this matchup coming off a 127-116 loss to the Detroit Pistons last night, and are 6-4 across their past 10. On the season, the Raptors have gone 38-37 against the spread, and the game total has remained under in 46 of their 75 games played.

Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickly have been ruled out for tonight’s game due to injury. Scottie Barnes is also listed as questionable with a left-shoulder contusion. Barnes sets the tone for this Raptors team, posting averages of 18.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. RJ Barrett adds 19.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, while Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Murray-Boyles, Jakob Poeltl, Ja’Kobe Walter, and Jamal Shead also play notable roles.

Darko Rajakovic’s squad is averaging 114.3 points per game, which ranks 21st in the NBA. The Raptors also rank 17th in offensive rating, ninth in field-goal percentage, and 23rd in three-point percentage. Defensively, opponents are scoring 112.2 points per game against Toronto, which ranks ninth in the NBA. The Raptors also rank seventh in defensive rating, 11th in opponents’ field-goal percentage, and 11th in opponents’ three-point percentage.

Kings vs. Raptors pick, best bet

The Toronto Raptors have been one of the better stories in the NBA for most of the season. The franchise outplayed expectations in the early part of this season relative to expectations, but came down to earth a bit in the second half of the year. Toronto enters this matchup having covered the spread in eight of its past 16 games.

In the first matchup between these two teams, the Raptors won 122-109. This matchup was closer than the score indicates, as both teams took double-digit leads throughout. The Kings led for 42% of the matchup and stretched this lead to as large as 12, while the Raptors held a lead for 53% of the game and pushed this to as many as 19.

Sacramento has plenty of concerns internally and will have some difficult questions to answer this summer. But they have played with a respectable spirit and kept things more competitive than expected down the home stretch of the season. They have covered the spread in seven of their last 12 games, including two of the last three entering this game. This includes respectable results such as losing to the Magic by four and the Hawks by 10 over this stretch. They are 10-9 against the spread when playing with a rest advantage this year.

Expect similar results tonight against a Raptors team that has not carried the same bite they showed at the start of the season. While the team goals for the season may be out the window, every player on this Kings team is playing to secure their NBA future and role within the team moving forward. Count on this level of desire showing through, and for the young Sacramento roster to be braced for battle tonight. While this game does not carry full upset potential, expect the 12.5-point spread to be too significant and for the Kings to keep this a game throughout. Especially on the second night of a back-to-back, count on the injuries to this Toronto team to be a factor and for Sacramento to keep this game far more competitive than the Raptors would prefer. Expect the Raptors to lack the available offensive talent to fully put this game away and for the Kings to scrap their way to covering the 12.5-point spread.

Best Bet: Kings +12.5 (-112)

Sean Barnard details his preview and prediction for Wednesday’s Sacramento Kings vs. Toronto Raptors NBA matchup.
