{"id":692597,"date":"2026-04-01T21:07:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T21:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/692597\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T21:07:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T21:07:19","slug":"jewish-former-nba-star-amare-stoudemire-reportedly-heading-to-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/692597\/","title":{"rendered":"Jewish former NBA star Amar&#8217;e Stoudemire reportedly heading to Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>JTA \u2014 Amar\u2019e Stoudemire, the American-Israeli basketball star who became a devout convert to Judaism after retiring, is reportedly headed to the Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Stoudemire will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026 alongside Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers and WNBA legends Candace Parker and Elena Delle Donne, according to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania, an elite NBA reporter.<\/p>\n<p>The 43-year-old Stoudemire played 14 seasons in the NBA, the first eight with the Phoenix Suns, who retired his No. 32 in 2024. Stoudemire was a six-time All-Star, the 2003 NBA Rookie of the Year and won a bronze medal with the US team at the 2004 Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>He also played professionally in Israel, where he won two Israeli Basketball Premier League championships, was named an All-Star twice and won the league\u2019s Finals MVP in 2020. (Hadas Parush\/Flash90)<\/p>\n<p>Stoudemire left his assistant coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets in 2022 after saying the role interfered with his Shabbat observance. Stoudemire, whose name on Instagram is \u201camareisrael,\u201d frequently posts on social media about studying the Talmud and other Jewish texts.<\/p>\n<p>Stoudemire joins a lineage of Jewish basketball icons in the Hall of Fame, including Sue Bird, who was inducted last year, Nancy Lieberman, Nat Holman, Barney Sedran, Max Friedman and Dolph Schayes \u2014 the only other Jewish player to have his number retired in the NBA.<\/p>\n<p>Non-players include coaches Red Auerbach and Harry Litwack, Harlem Globetrotters founder Abe Saperstein, coach and executive Eddie Gottlieb, the NBA\u2019s first de facto commissioner Maurice Podoloff and referee Dave Tobey.
