While Joel Embiid<\/a> being ruled out for the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>\u2018 upcoming game isn\u2019t strange by itself, the former MVP\u2019s status as \u2018out\u2019 for tonight\u2019s contest against the Washington Wizards<\/a> came by way of a few bizarre circumstances.<\/p>\n

Embiid won\u2019t play in the 76ers\u2019 game against the Wizards, as he is officially ruled out<\/a> with an illness. However, according to the star, it\u2019s not because he doesn\u2019t want to play.<\/p>\n

In a series of a few tweets<\/a>, Embiid challenged his own status on Philadelphia\u2019s injury report<\/a>, most recently calling out his own team after going after a reporter online for saying that he wouldn\u2019t play on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Confusing? Yes.<\/p>\n

No, Joel Embiid is not playing tonight, despite what he\u2019s said online on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Actually, based on his recent comments, his status might not be able to be confirmed until the game ends and Embiid doesn\u2019t play any minutes, because, in the hours before the game, the status of the center has bounced back and forth.<\/p>\n

Officially, Embiid is on the Sixers\u2019 injury report.<\/a><\/p>\n

The day started with Embiid listed as out<\/a> for the 76ers game on Wednesday. While he did play on Monday and previously wasn\u2019t on the injury report, to his surprise, he was added to the list by the team.<\/p>\n

In a tweet earlier on Wednesday, Embiid went at a reporter for confirming Philadelphia\u2019s injury report.<\/p>\n

\u201cMust be APRIL FOOLS joke???? Played against Miami in the same conditions and I\u2019m planning to play tonight!!! #SweatItOut<\/a>,\u201d he wrote on X.<\/a><\/p>\n

Embiid challenged the fact that he was ruled out on the injury report, despite what official league records showed.<\/p>\n

That was then followed up hours later by another tweet in which he apparently called out his own team for not letting him play.<\/p>\n

I guess they won\u2019t let me play basketball!!<\/p>\n

Again, just to be clear, Embiid has been listed as out on the injury report all day. The records show<\/a> his status hasn\u2019t changed, despite what he\u2019s said on social media. The 2023 MVP even thought his status was an April Fools joke, but despite that, he does not look to be suiting up on Monday, despite saying he would be fine to play.<\/p>\n

Embiid recently missed a month with a knee injury, and is now reportedly dealing with an illness.<\/p>\n

In 36 games this season, he is averaging 26.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists on 49.5% shooting.<\/p>\n

Along with Embiid, there is only one other player listed on the 76ers\u2019 injury report for Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Rookie Johni Broome<\/a> is officially ruled out while he recovers from right knee surgery.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia will have Tyrese Maxey<\/a>, VJ Edgecombe<\/a>, Kelly Oubre<\/a>, and Paul George<\/a> all available for the game against the Wizards.<\/p>\n

The 76ers are currently 41-34 and seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.<\/a> They have won six of their last ten games, and are fighting to move up the standings and stay out of the Play-In Tournament seeds.<\/p>\n
