The Portland Trail Blazers were fined $100,000 by the NBA for violating rules governing contact with draft-ineligible players connected to the team’s Dec. 2023 scouting of center Yang Hansen, the league announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Trail Blazers assistant general managers Sergi Oliva and Mike Schmitz were both suspended two weeks without pay for their roles in the violation. <\/p>\n

Portland released a statement following the NBA’s announcement. <\/p>\n

“When this was brought to our attention the Portland Trail Blazers self reported to the NBA,” the Trail Blazers said in the statement, per ESPN’s Shams Charania<\/a>. “The team cooperated fully with the investigation and accept the league’s determination.”<\/p>\n

Portland selected Hansen with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft.<\/p>\n

Before entering the association, the 20-year-old played for the Qingdao Eagles in China.<\/p>\n

When the scouting violation occurred during the CBA’s 2023-24 season, Hansen ended the year with averages of 15.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 55.4 percent from the field.<\/p>\n

Oliva and Schmitz both joined the Trail Blazers organization in 2022. The former briefly served as head coach of the Rip City Remix, the team’s G League affiliate, before returning to his position as assistant general manager in June 2025.<\/p>\n

As for Hansen, he’s played in 41 games during his rookie season in Portland. He’s averaging 2.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 7.2 minutes per game, shooting 31.0 percent from the field.<\/p>\n

Hansen has fared much better when given extended playing time in the G League, though. In 14 regular-season contests with the Remix, he’s recording 17.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game on 62.4\/32.1\/75.0 shooting splits.<\/p>\n
