A new report has revealed the Dallas Mavericks<\/a>\u2018 top choices to succeed Nico Harrison as general manager\/team president and why they won\u2019t land any of them.<\/p>\n

This has been a rough last 13 months for Mavericks fans. Last February, Dallas fans were utterly stunned when the organization traded top star Luka Doncic<\/a>, entering his prime. And to the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> no less. Things since then have only gotten worse.<\/p>\n

Kyrie Irving<\/a> tore his ACL not long after the trade and has not returned to the court yet. Anthony Davis<\/a>, the return in the blockbuster trade, could barely stay healthy \u2014 and eventually shipped off to the Washington Wizards<\/a> earlier this year. While they lucked into the No. 1 pick in the draft and budding star Cooper Flagg<\/a>, the team\u2019s bad play to begin the season was too much for the executive suite to take, and Harrison was ousted as GM and president.<\/p>\n

Since then, there has been a lot of speculation on who could end up replacing the most hated man in Dallas basketball. On Wednesday, NBA insider Marc Stein<\/a> offered a sizable update on the search that won\u2019t really start until after the regular season concludes, and the top names on the Mavericks\u2019 wish list.<\/p>\n

According to Stein, ownership has some \u201clofty ambitions\u201d and is curious if it could lure away Oklahoma City\u2019s Sam Presti, San Antonio\u2019s R.C. Buford, and Boston\u2019s Brad Stevens. However, all three are close to impossible to get because they \u201care generally regarded as lifers with their respective franchises who wouldn\u2019t merely be expensive to try to pry away. Strong only begins to describe the executive\/team bonds there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another big name that has been linked to Dallas\u2019 opening is two-time executive of the year winner Bob Myers. However, the man who helped build the Golden State Warriors<\/a>\u2018 recent dynasty currently has an opportunity that seems too good to walk away from.<\/p>\n

\u201cMyers currently holds an extremely lucrative job as president for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment that calls for him to provide high-level consulting for all of the pro sports franchises in the HBSE portfolio,\u201d Stein wrote. \u201cThat includes the New Jersey Devils<\/a> and Crystal Palace Football Club in addition to the NBA\u2019s Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>\u2026 with Myers also part of the hierarchy with the Josh Harris-owned Washington Commanders<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stein notes that landing Myers is considered a long shot, and he has already turned away interest from the Phoenix Suns<\/a> and Atlanta Hawks<\/a>.<\/p>\n
