In the rebuild process, the Sacramento Kings are looking for a lot of things when it comes to the roster. One key attribute would be actually wanting to play for the team, which is a major plus that Precious Achiuwa is bringing to the table. He’s made it clear he wants to stay in Sacramento<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the Kings probably should have started the rebuild a decade ago instead of limping along, it’s at least better late than never. It’s a long-term process that general manager Scott Perry has said could take up to five years to bear fruit<\/a>. Honestly, that’s likely a conservative estimate at best.<\/p>\n

Being that the franchise has been in rough shape for such a long time, a lot of players just don’t want to be there. Running up to the 2026 Trade Deadline, there were rumors that the Kings were looking at Ja Morant. He, in turn, made it crystal clear he didn’t want to go to Sacramento.<\/p>\n

What the Kings don’t want is a roster of players who just see Sacramento as a stepping stone to something bigger and better. They need a group of guys who buy into the process and the goal. Apparently, that guy is Achiuwa, who is one of the few who want to be there.<\/p>\n

Precious Achiuwa makes his stance on the Kings clear<\/p>\n

During recent postgame comments, Achiuwa talked about how much he loves living in Sacramento as well as wanting to continue to play for the Kings and head coach Doug Christie. It’s a far cry from Dennis Schroder’s recent comments<\/a> on his time with Sacramento before his trade.<\/p>\n

That kind of buy-in is hard to find, particularly when it’s a basement-dwelling team that hasn’t been truly relevant in 20 years. Achiuwa has been around the league for a minute now and actually sees the potential in what the front office is trying to do in the rebuild.<\/p>\n

It’s no secret why the Kings signed him in the first place. Achiuwa is a defensively-minded power forward who is on the right side of 30, spaces the floor well, and can provide explosive offence. Plus, he’s got enough experience in the NBA to help guide and support all the rookies and sophomores.<\/p>\n

Achiuwa is only on a one-year contract that will end at the conclusion of this season. Christie also seems as happy with Achiuwa as Achiuwa is with Christie, so hopefully an extension is coming.
