Nikola Jokic<\/a> has had a historic year with the Denver Nuggets<\/a>. Despite an unfortunate injury absence for 16 games from December to January, Jokic has been an MVP contender from the opening tip with his dominant performances for the franchise.<\/p>\n

Jokic is averaging 27.7 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 10.8 assists in 61 games this season, with the Nuggets holding a 49-28 record despite terrible injury luck across the roster this season.<\/p>\n

His 15 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists in the Nuggets’ 130-117 win over the Utah Jazz<\/a> on Wednesday night were another example of how effortlessly Jokic has impacted games this season.<\/p>\n

With all the stat-stuffing performances we’ve seen from Jokic, he has officially become the second player in NBA<\/a> history (after Russell Westbrook<\/a>) to average a triple-double over two consecutive 82-game regular seasons.<\/p>\n

The NBA announced the same on social media after the feat was cemented tonight.<\/p>\n

Jokic is No. 2 in the all-time list for triple-doubles with 196, trailing Russell Westbrook’s 209. He’s had 32 triple-doubles this season and has comfortably matched a feat that many used to think was impossible until Westbrook did it for four seasons in a row.<\/p>\n

Oscar Robertson was the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double over a season, but he couldn’t do it twice like Westbrook and Jokic.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t look like Jokic is forcing his way to triple-doubles on the court right now, but it’d be interesting to see if he can repeat this feat next year, given his play style can yield similar results.<\/p>\n

The Nuggets are chasing the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> for the No. 3 seed in the West, trailing LA by 1.5 games right now. They have seven games left to play this season, so it’s safe to assume Jokic will be playing a full minutes load until the Nuggets have secured their seed in the West.<\/p>\n

If Jokic is pushing to meet the 65-game requirement for NBA awards eligibility, he has four more games to go. He’ll likely hope to maximize these results and secure the Nuggets’ fate as soon as possible, to get some rest before the Playoffs start.<\/p>\n

Given the margins in the West, it doesn’t seem like Jokic will miss a single game again this season, unless an injury sidelines him. Until then, we could just see Jokic make his season averages even bigger with more MVP-like performances.<\/p>\n
