A franchise-record 53 first-quarter points set the tone for a 147-129 victory over the <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/miami-heat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Heat<\/a> at Kaseya Center. <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/jayson-tatum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jayson Tatum<\/a> finished with <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/jayson-tatum\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">25 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 assists<\/a> for his first triple-double since returning from injury.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\"><a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/jaylen-brown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaylen Brown<\/a> led all scorers with <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/jaylen-brown\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">43 points<\/a> in his seventh 40-point game of the season. <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/sam-hauser\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Hauser<\/a> was perfect from three in the first quarter and finished with <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/sam-hauser\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">23 points<\/a>. Boston shot 11-of-15 from deep in the opening period and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum Joins Larry Bird<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Tatum\u2019s 25-point, 18-rebound, 11-assist line placed him in rare company. The only other Celtic to record a triple-double with those kinds of numbers across the board is Larry Bird.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Doris Burke informed Tatum of the distinction during their postgame conversation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">\u201cIt\u2019s an honor. Anytime you\u2019re mentioned with all-time greats, it means I\u2019m doing something right,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lockedupjb\/status\/2039529424006099252?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">Tatum said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The humility stood out. Tatum acknowledged it, offered a quiet smile, and moved on. That approach has defined his return from the Achilles injury. Just steady progress, game by game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Tatum said afterward that he feels a little better with each outing but still cannot put a number on how close he is to being fully himself. So did the 11 three-pointers on 15 attempts. Brown had 20 in the period while Hauser poured in 17, becoming the first Celtics duo to each reach 17 points in the same quarter in the play-by-play era.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Hauser could not miss. He went 5-for-5 from deep in the first, including four in the final four minutes as Boston pulled away. <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/neemias-queta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neemias Queta<\/a> finished with a double-double of his own, contributing <a class=\"underline underline underline-offset-2 decoration-1 decoration-current\/40 hover:decoration-current focus:decoration-current\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nba\/player\/neemias-queta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">15 points and 10 rebounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Miami responded in the third quarter with 45 points, cutting the deficit to nine early in the fourth. But Hauser answered with a pair of mid-range jumpers and Tatum knocked down a stepback three to restore order. His 43 points marked his seventh 40-point game of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">He scored the Celtics\u2019 first 11 points and set the tone from the opening possession. Just days after calling his <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/atlanta-hawks\/\" title=\"Hawks\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"212102\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hawks<\/a> performance one of his worst, Brown came out with the aggressive mindset he promised and delivered one of his best.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">The Celtics improved to 51-25 with six regular season games remaining.\u00a0Boston heads to Milwaukee on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Final Word for the Celtics<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Larry Bird is the standard in Boston. Tatum knows that better than anyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Joining Bird in the franchise record books while still working his way back from a torn Achilles says something about where Tatum is at.
