The Utah Jazz<\/a> have clearly liked what they’ve seen from recent 10-day signing Bez Mbeng in his short stretch in the rotation, as the team now appears to be inking him to a deal for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

According to Sarah Todd of Deseret News, the Jazz are expected to sign Mbeng for the remainder of the season, who has been signed to a pair of two-way contracts since joining the team.<\/p>\n

Jazz are planning to sign Bez Mbeng for the remainder of the season following two 10-day contracts (second one ends tomorrow), clearing the way for him to join the Jazz for Summer League play.<\/p>\n

Now, as that second 10-day contract<\/a> was set to expire on Thursday, the Jazz needed to make a decision of whether they were going to let Mbeng walk and fill in his spot with another player on a 10-day deal, or sign him on for the rest of the year to claim that spot on the official roster.<\/p>\n

The latter appears to be the route the Jazz are choosing, which is great news for Mbeng as he gets to continue his stint with Utah for the final five games on the calendar for a chance to further present his skillset on an NBA floor.<\/p>\n

The rookie guard out of Yale, since coming aboard in Salt Lake City, has found his way into being a consistent part of the Jazz’s nightly rotation while the team has dealt with significant injuries following the All-Star break.<\/p>\n

During the 11 games that Mbeng has played with the Jazz thus far, it’s resulted in him averaging 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.7 steals a game in nearly 30 minutes per.<\/p>\n

His calling card lands on the defensive end, and being a pesky perimeter defender, which Utah could certainly utilize more of in their rotation considering they’re trending towards the league’s worst-ranked defense for a third consecutive season.<\/p>\n

What Mbeng’s Contract Means Moving Forward\"Mar<\/p>\n

There are both some short- and long-term implications that come as a result of the Jazz’s new deal for Mbeng.<\/p>\n

How it affects the short term is simple: instead of having to go out and find another 10-day deal to help round out their roster and rotation in the final five games of the year, the Jazz can settle with someone who’s been in the building for nearly three weeks and provides a skillset as a perimeter defender Utah can find good value in for the meantime.<\/p>\n

But Mbeng’s signing will also clear a pathway for the rookie to be a part of the Jazz’s Summer League roster later this offseason.<\/p>\n

So long as he doesn’t find a contract in free agency before Utah has to fill out their group of young guys, he’ll be one of the few names able to get more reps on the floor in July, and potentially establish himself as one of the 21 names to be a part of the training camp roster before next season.<\/p>\n

There’s no telling how the Jazz’s roster could develop<\/a> between now and the start of next season, but for now, Mbeng is set to be a part of it for the final five games of the 2025-26 campaign, and likely to get a good share of minutes in the process.<\/p>\n
