DETROIT – Detroit Pistons All-Star guard Cade Cunningham will remain out for at least another week as he continues to recover from a collapsed left lung. The team announced Thursday that Cunningham will be re-evaluated in one week.<\/p>\n
The injury occurred during a March 17 game against the Washington Wizards. This was Cunningham\u2019s 61st game of the season, which leaves him short of the 65-game threshold required to be eligible for NBA awards.<\/p>\n
Cunningham is currently working to return to the court under the supervision of doctors and Detroit\u2019s medical and performance staff. Before the injury, he was averaging 24.5 points and 9.9 assists per game. Only eight players in NBA history have finished a season averaging those totals, and Cunningham would be the first to do so in a Detroit uniform.<\/p>\n
Despite the absence of their starting guard, the Pistons have clinched the Central Division. The team currently holds a four-game lead over the Boston Celtics for the top seed in the Eastern Conference with six games remaining in the regular season.<\/p>\n
Cunningham is scheduled for re-evaluation in a week.
