Lady Vols basketball<\/a> assistant coach Roman Tubner has been fired, according to a report from USA TODAY on April 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tubner was hired to Tennessee coach Caldwell’s staff<\/a> shortly after she was hired in April 2024. Tubner spent the previous three seasons on the Alabama women’s basketball staff and was an associate head coach in his final season with the Tide.<\/p>\n

Tubner interviewed for the head coach<\/a> opening at Kennesaw State, according to a report from USA TODAY on March 27. Kennesaw State hired Tianni Kelly on March 30.<\/p>\n

Tubner was making $250,000 annually on Caldwell’s staff, according to UT’s salary database.<\/p>\n

Tubner was one of two assistants Caldwell hired from other SEC staffs when she got the Lady Vols job, along with Gabe Lazo, who she hired from Mississippi State. Lazo resigned from Tennessee’s staff<\/a> on March 27 and was hired by LSU on March 31.<\/a><\/p>\n

The staff changes add to the turnover of the offseason for Tennessee. The Lady Vols have already lost seven of their eight possible returners<\/a> to the transfer portal.<\/p>\n

Before Alabama, Tubner made stops at Ball State (2021-22), UNC Wilmington (2019-20), Indiana State (2018-19), Austin Peay (2017-18), Arkansas Tech (2014-17) and Division II Arkansas-Monticello (2013-14). He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Arkansas-Monticello men’s basketball team before switching to women’s basketball.<\/p>\n

The Montgomery, Alabama, native played basketball from 2008-11 at Centenary.<\/p>\n
