He only has a two-game cushion in order to reach the 65-game minimum.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson addressed Wembanyama\u2019s absence. He confirmed that a sore ankle kept the center off the court. (Photo by Ronald Cortes\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have any more back-to-backs, so that helps him with more recovery time,\u201d Johnson told reporters on Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/sports\/spurs\/article\/3-takeaways-spurs-rout-clippers-wembanyama-22187001.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to the San Antonio Express-News<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s something we\u2019ll definitely be mindful of so we can get everybody as healthy as they can be down the stretch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This season, the Spurs are gearing up for their first playoff run with Wembanyama.<\/p>\n<p>Without the star center, the Spurs took care of business on Thursday night, defeating the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/los-angeles-clippers\/\" title=\"LA Clippers\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213360\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">LA Clippers<\/a> 118-99. (Photo by Ezra Shaw\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>As long as Wembanyama\u2019s sore ankle doesn\u2019t force enough absences to prevent his 65-game goal, the Spurs\u2019 center should earn some notable accolades this year.<\/p>\n<p>In 61 games, the big man has averaged 24.7 points per game, while shooting 50.9% from the field and 35.0% from three.<\/p>\n<p>Along with his scoring, Wembanyama is dishing out 3.0 assists per game. Defensively, he\u2019s coming down with 11.5 rebounds per game, while blocking 3.1 shots per game (league leader), and snatching 1.0 steals per game.<\/p>\n<p>Following Thursday\u2019s win, the Spurs will be back on the court on Saturday afternoon. They have a meeting with the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/denver-nuggets\/\" title=\"Denver Nuggets\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"213362\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Denver Nuggets<\/a> in Colorado.
