The Sacramento Kings may have quietly uncovered another developmental gem, and his name is Daeqwon Plowden.<\/p>\n

During a recent segment on Sactown Sports\u2019 The Drive Guys<\/a>, Allen Stiles and Kevin Gleason couldn\u2019t help but notice the similarities between Plowden and former Kings guard Keon Ellis\u2014a player who recently turned a two-way contract into a legitimate NBA role.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs one Keon leaves, another Keon may be arriving,\u201d Stiles said, setting the tone for the comparison.<\/p>\n

At first glance, the numbers back it up. Plowden, playing on a two-way contract, is averaging 10.1 points and 3.0 rebounds per game on 43% shooting and 33% from three across 27 games (25.6 minutes) this season.<\/p>\n

But his recent surge is what\u2019s turning heads: 14.2 points per game on 46% shooting and 38% from deep over his last 12 games, fueled by increased opportunity amid injuries.<\/p>\n

While Ellis carved out his role as a defense-first \u201cthree-and-D\u201d guard, Plowden brings a slightly different flavor. According to Stiles, his offensive assertiveness stands out.<\/p>\n

\u201cOffensively, he\u2019s much more forceful. He will go get his shot, he will shoot off the dribble,\u201d Stiles explained. \u201cKeon was more of a catch-and-shoot guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

That aggressiveness has translated into real production. Plowden isn\u2019t just filling minutes\u2014he\u2019s creating offense, taking 5.6 three-point attempts per game, and knocking them down at an improving clip.<\/p>\n

Of course, defense remains the biggest separator\u2014for now.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeon is going to be more impactful on the defensive end\u2026 more D and three versus more three and D,\u201d Stiles said.<\/p>\n

Still, Gleason pointed out that Plowden isn\u2019t a liability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey respect him defensively\u2026 he might not be a stopper, but he\u2019s not getting played off the floor,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

The bigger question is role projection. Ellis has already established himself as a valuable rotation piece on a competitive team. Plowden, meanwhile, is still being defined.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we know pretty much what Keon is. Daeqwon Plowden, we\u2019re still finding out,\u201d Gleason said.<\/p>\n

That uncertainty may actually be the most exciting part.<\/p>\n

At 27, Plowden isn\u2019t a traditional \u201cprospect,\u201d but the Kings\u2014and their G-League affiliate in Stockton\u2014have shown a knack for turning overlooked players into contributors.<\/p>\n

As Stiles put it: \u201cThe Stockton Kings, they are flipping and turning things around pretty quickly here.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Plowden continues trending upward, the Sacramento Kings may once again have turned a low-risk two-way deal into a high-value rotation player\u2014another success story in their growing development pipeline, one that also saw rookie center Dylan Cardwell go from a two-way contract to a standard deal this season.<\/p>\n
